In 1980, there were half as many natural disasters in the world as in 2013. Scientists from the Scientific Advisory Council of European Academies made such a frightening discovery.

Scientists from twenty-seven scientific institutions in Europe that make up this council conducted a large-scale study called “Trends in Extreme Weather Conditions in Europe” back in 2013. Last week, this scientific project was expanded with data for 2013-2017, and they did not bring much optimism.

“Having compared data on temperatures, precipitation and other climatic factors, we came to rather sad conclusions - the number of extreme events associated with climate is steadily growing in the world. Storms, floods, avalanches, as well as other meteorological and hydrological phenomena - all this in the modern world occurs twice as often as in 1980,”experts say.

The reasons for such an alarming trend, as you might guess, are hidden in the change in the planetary climate - global warming is increasing, and the high temperature provokes a whole range of dangerous phenomena. For example, there is a weakening of the Gulf Stream - the current that determines the European climate.
