Video: Did We Just Detect a New "Wow" Signal from Proxima Centauri? 2024, May

The universe itself is an insoluble mystery to us. In the 21st century, for example, we still do not have an answer to one of the main questions of humanity: is there extraterrestrial life on other planets? While astronomers have long been receiving mysterious signals from distant stars. These are the so-called fast radio bursts (FRBs), which appear temporarily and always by chance, which makes them not only almost impossible for a targeted search, but also difficult to study. The secret lies here in the fact that it is not yet known how such a short and at the same time strong radio signal is caused.

This circumstance has led some experts to suggest that such signals may be generated from colliding stars, although it is possible otherwise - these are artificially created messages.

The first FRB was discovered (rather, "heard") by radio telescopes back in 2001, but it was not thoroughly studied again until 2007, only then scientists analyzed archival data and encountered this strange phenomenon. The signal itself was so temporary and seemingly random that it took astronomers years to admit that it was not a technical glitch in one of the telescope's instruments. But now astronomers have recognized that all of the recorded FRBs follow an established pattern, so they may well be of artificial origin.

Signals with a set pattern

Astronomers have identified the first established model of a rapid radio burst 500 million light-years away, but they still don't know what is causing this phenomenon. The signal travels within a few milliseconds once an hour, and so every hour for four days. Silence is then followed for twelve days before the 16-day cycle resumes. This is the first time astronomers have discovered the FRB pattern, but the reasons are only speculative. The pattern was recorded after 400 days of observation by researchers from the Canadian CHIME project.

Scientists in Canada have ruled out alien communication, as they consider: 16 days, and even for such a short message - all this would be inappropriate and ineffective in this regard. In addition, some of these radio bursts found on Earth are unique, originating from truly random space, and never repeat themselves. Now the CHIME astronomers, who have so far refused to comment on their discovery, have proved that when studying the FRB 180916 pattern, everything happened quite differently, it is constantly repeated.

No explanation has yet been found, but astronomers speculate it could be because the source of the mysterious FRB is in orbit.

Scientists do not yet know whether the repeating signal is an anomaly or the norm, but only one thing is proved: they have searched for radio bursts incorrectly for several years, that is, the search was based on chance in their appearance. However, today's opening will allow them to reduce their search volume.

Extraterrestrial origin

Since some scientists do not even want to make the assumption that the origin of the FRB 180916 pattern may be alien, the CHIME researchers did not disclose all the intricacies of their discovery and impose their opinion on this matter. In turn, physicists from Harvard University have suggested that these fast radio bursts may be evidence of extraterrestrial technology for interstellar motion of the ship, when a "wormhole" is created, allowing instantaneous travel over huge distances.

Renowned theoretical physicist Avi Loeb of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics explained that bursts in the "curvature" of the time-space continuum can give parameters corresponding to FRB. For example, taking this principle of movement in space as a basis, NASA scientists stated that it is possible to "fly" to Mars in just three days. That is why the FRB 180916 pattern may seem quite artificial and at the same time have nothing to do with the transmission of information and the desire of brothers in mind to contact us or someone else in the big space.
