Archaeologists were shocked to look inside a huge black granite coffin, found three weeks ago.

The fact that scientists have removed the lid from the so-called "giant sarcophagus", reported the British newspaper The Sun with reference to Mustafa Waziri - Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities of Egypt (Supreme Council of Antiquities). The content shocked eyewitnesses.

The sarcophagus was filled with sewage water. It was pumped out, of course. And they saw the remains of three decomposed bodies. And they were looking forward to seeing something completely different - some one, but a huge skeleton. After all, the sarcophagus was striking in its size: 265 centimeters in length, 185 in height and 165 centimeters in width. As if it had been hollowed out for a person unprecedented for those distant times of growth. The Egyptians themselves were not tall - 150 centimeters on average.

Let me remind you that we talked about this: a black granite sarcophagus was discovered at the end of June this year in Egypt, in Alexandria during excavations in the Sidi Gaber district of Alexandria. Lied at a depth of 5 meters. According to archaeologists, it was about 2 thousand years old. And even longer.

The burial is strange - for three. It is possible that such an extensive stone coffin was made for the construction of such a "mass grave". But who rested there is still unknown.

Some of the remains seem to belong to the war - there is a mark on the skull from a blow from a sword. And the others? It has been established so far that they have nothing to do with the pharaohs.

According to the most daring hypothesis, one of the skeletons belongs to Alexander the Great himself, whose grave has not yet been discovered. And he died somewhere in Egypt. And about the same time, determined by archaeologists for the sarcophagus.

Burial is poor. The sarcophagus itself is certainly worth a lot. But inside - apart from the remains - nothing. No gold, no silver, no figurines.

Both the sarcophagus and the remains will be sent to the Alexandria's National Restoration Museum for research. The immediate goal is to determine the causes of death of those buried and to clarify when it occurred.

By the way, Mustafa Vaziri is optimistic. After his subordinates opened the sarcophagus, the secretary general was glad that no one was struck by the curse. He was referring to the legendary "curse of Tutankhamun" - the mysterious deaths of many who dealt with his mummy and tomb.

Perhaps Mustafa was in a hurry. “It's not evening yet,” as they say in Egypt.
