A resident of China, who went to the hospital due to discomfort in his throat, doctors pulled a live six-centimeter leech out of the trachea, which got there along with dirty water.

On February 7, a 61-year-old resident of Hubei province named Yang went to Yichang City Hospital. In the past few weeks, the man has felt soreness in the throat area, accompanied by coughing and wheezing. He tried to be treated with traditional medicine and anti-inflammatory drugs, but to no avail.

After examination by specialists, it turned out that there was some foreign body in the patient's trachea. To the amazement of physicians, who had previously encountered only inanimate objects in the throat of patients, it turned out to be a living leech six centimeters long. Doctors managed to pick it up and extract it from the trachea using a clamp, reports QQ.com.

After the operation, Yang revealed that he worked at a construction site a few months ago. Once a pipe burst there, and water got into his nose and mouth. After a while, he began to have regular nosebleeds, after which three leech larvae were removed from his nose at the hospital.

Apparently, one larva went unnoticed and slipped into the patient's trachea, where it grew into an adult leech. According to doctors, without timely intervention, the situation could lead to the death of the patient, who at some point could simply suffocate.
