In our enlightened time, the poltergeist often tries to enter into verbal contact. The most famous case was registered in the English city of Anfield in 1977. The "noisy spirit" persistently tried to communicate with people, but at the same time he uttered only obscenities and scattered "messages" everywhere - scrawled scraps of paper. And one day he suddenly demanded: “I want to listen to jazz music. Put it on or I'll go crazy!"
In the USSR, the L. L. Vasiliev organized an ambulance service with the aim of scientific study of the mysterious phenomenon of poltergeist. Its leader, Doctor of Medical Sciences Andrei Li, himself went to the calls dozens of times, studying various manifestations of poltergeist: mechanical, thermal, water. And in the end, he noted a characteristic feature: a "noisy spirit" never creates a deadly situation for people.
Objects flying at high speed either change course before reaching a person, or in an incomprehensible way stop and fall, lightly touching the body. Furniture never falls on people. Things only light up if there is someone in the house who is able to extinguish the fire. Even when clothes on a person suddenly light up by themselves and he tries to bring down the fire with his bare hands, there are no burns on the body and hands! And in winter, in frosty weather, the "barabashka" never breaks the glass in the windows.
The existence of such "conditions of the game" suggests that the mysterious "spirit" has a mind! At first glance, the hypothesis is absurd. If he is reasonable, then why annoys people by arranging all sorts of tricks, from which he himself does not gain anything? After all, mind, by definition, cannot pursue only destructive, negative goals, that is, to be absolute evil. The answer to this riddle was provided by research conducted by a group of experts led by Academician of the International Academy of Informatization, Candidate of Technical Sciences Boris Marchenko.
Wonderful neighbor
It all started with the fact that on December 25, 1989, a "noisy spirit" settled in the apartment of Vera Andreevna Maximova and her 14-year-old son Dima. He informed the owners of his appearance with a loud rattle heard from under the couch. Then he pulled the sheet from under the boy who was lying on it and bent the leg of the floor lamp in an arc. The spirit "played naughty" in the following days: from the nightstands drawers moved by themselves, chairs moved and fell. But gradually he began to behave more decently, confined himself to knocking at night. Little by little, Vera Andreevna and Dima ceased to be afraid of him, they called him Vasya and even began to knock with him.
“We have been visiting the Maximovs' apartment since January 1990,” Marchenko writes in his report. - At our first visit, Vera Andreevna begged Vasya for a long time not to shy away from new people and knock for us. For two hours there was no answer, but then he nevertheless made himself known. Subsequently, “barabashka” got a taste and began to communicate with us. The first step towards establishing informational contact was made by creating game situations.

We knew from the landlords that sometimes a tambourine and metallophone sticks flew around the room, so we tried to involve Vasya in musical creativity, including tape recordings. Soon he began to play along, hitting a tambourine or sticks on a metallophone.
Then we had the idea to teach an invisible-ku-poltergeist to type on a typewriter. To do this, we brought it into the apartment and, just in case, so that it would not be thrown or broken, we put the old "Underwood" right on the floor. First Vasya pulled the paper out of the carriage. I had to explain why she was needed and what was required of him. We turn off the light and hear how he presses the keys. Gently at first, then stronger. And after turning on the light, we find on the paper inserted into the typewriter a random set of letters and numbers. We continue our training, and after half an hour our "noisy spirit" typed his name, albeit with a small letter. Then he began to use the typewriter more confidently and briskly tapped out the answers to our questions."
He's just like you and me, but …
From these answers it followed that the poltergeist Vasya was not a spirit at all. By its nature, it is material, although it resides in a different dimension. According to the information he provided, its anatomical structure is similar to that of a human: it has two arms, two legs, two eyes, a nose and ears. As for the size, they are not constant and can change: a two-meter creature can shrink to a ball with a diameter of two centimeters.
Indeed, once Marchenko was able to observe Vasya for several minutes in the form of a black ball with a diameter of about 20 mm. Later, when the contact was finally established, after rather lengthy negotiations, Vasya agreed to pose in front of the camera. The device captured both a pear-shaped transparent object and an oblique light transparent stripe.
Simple calculations showed that in the first case it had a length of 328 mm and a diameter of 230 mm, and in the second - a width of 150 mm and a height of about 2 meters. The poltergeist himself explained that these photographs represent his "energy projection into your dimension, or into your world."
The researchers learned the most interesting from the headmaster of the school where Dima studied. It turns out that Vasya accompanies him to school and helps him study: even if the boy did not learn the lesson, the right answer appeared in his head. Such help testified to a sufficiently high intelligence of the poltergeist. We decided to conduct an experiment: they offered him to solve the equation: 2x - 4 = 0. Vasya immediately answered: "X is equal to two." Complicated the task: calculate the integral. And again the correct answer. We tried to ask questions in foreign languages. Vasya understood everything perfectly. However, in the next session, they found out that questions can be asked mentally, without speaking aloud.
Vasilisa out of nowhere
To find out the knowledge and abilities of the poltergeist, they asked him to discharge the galvanic battery or reduce its voltage. For the experiment, we took two manganese-zinc three-cell batteries KBLS with a voltage of 4.5 volts. We put one on the table and measured the voltage with a tester.
By the way, by that time the second poltergeist, Vasilisa, had settled in the apartment. Moreover, this "barabashka" spoke "out of nowhere": a voice suddenly rang out in the room. Many have heard it and even recorded it on a tape recorder. So when the experiment with batteries began, Vasilisa unexpectedly intervened: "To reduce the battery voltage, complex physical and chemical processes are needed, and Vasya will need 15-20 minutes for this."
After the indicated time, the voltage of two batteries was measured: the control one and the one on which the poltergeist acted. In the second, the voltage dropped to 1 volt. This means that the poltergeist had the necessary amount of knowledge to solve this problem.
By the way, Marchenko and his experts managed to persuade Vasilisa to act on a video camera. Although the people who were present saw nothing, the footage captured a human figure in a silver skin-tight jumpsuit. According to Vasilisa, in her world she usually exists in a female form, her height is two meters, her eyes are blue, her skin is white-pink. However, in subsequent conversations with her, it turned out that the shape and size are not stable, they can change at her will.
This is what the dialogue with her was recorded on a tape recorder:
- Where do you sleep here in the apartment?
- In Dima's closet.
- Where do you lie there?
- On the shelf.
- How do you fit there if you are two meters tall?
- So what, I'm becoming small.
- How?
- I change my volume.
Similar data on the poltergeist form have been obtained by foreign studies. So, the Italian scientist reports that he managed to get numerous pictures of circular objects when shooting in the ultraviolet part of the spectrum. Doctor of Technical Sciences G. Pritzker from Alma-Ata demonstrates photographs, also obtained during shooting in the ultraviolet spectrum, in which objects of a round shape the size of an orange are captured.
The drums are not only naughty
But back to our Vasya. When communicating with him, researchers were repeatedly convinced that he is well versed in the circuits and designs of cameras, flashlights and tape recorders. Many times he did not allow observers to photograph and record the voice of the second poltergeist, somehow influencing the equipment. For example, when the camera shutter button was pressed, the shutter worked normally, and the flash only after a few seconds. When the "record" button was turned on, the tape recorder suddenly stopped working, but as soon as we went out into the next room with it, the reel began to rotate normally.
An interesting incident occurred when Marchenko's group decided to record Vasilisa's voice. The tape was not new, with a recording of an American singer. But the researchers either did not know about it, or did not remember. And suddenly Vasilisa said: "Why spoil a good record?" That is, a poltergeist is able to read a recording from a magnetic tape without listening.
Experts have made sure that the poltergeist understands TV circuits. True, this happened to another "noisy spirit" who received the name Bio. This "barabashka" gave instructions to 12-year-old Andrey, guided by which the boy was able to fix the color TV, although he himself did not understand what his hands were doing. This happened in one of the apartments in a house on Bolshoy Sampsonievsky Lane in St. Petersburg.
“Thus, we can definitely consider a poltergeist intelligent, and equal in intelligence to an educated person,” the researchers concluded. - But this is far from the highest mind. The "noisy spirits" have a lot of manifestations of primitive thinking, frequent violations of logic. At the same time, one gets the impression that the actions are programmed: “We don’t have this in our program” - this was a typical poltergeist response to some requests. In addition, it should be noted that objects of the subtle world have properties that cannot yet be explained from the standpoint of modern knowledge, and their knowledge can bring science to a completely new level."
