The history of mankind is made up not only of real events, but also of mystical events that in a special way affect reality. Of course, scientists brush aside such facts, trying not to notice. But how not to notice what the president of America himself, Abraham Lincoln, was talking about?

Lincoln was neither romantically nor mystical. On the contrary, only a tough and sober politician could end slavery in the United States once and for all. However, in life, he attached great importance to signs and symbols, considering them to be some kind of messages from the Higher powers. Lincoln also had a longtime loyal friend - Ward Hill Lamon, who often gave his high-ranking friend good advice and wise recommendations. But Mr. Lamon himself became known not because of his friendship with Lincoln, but for his strange abilities - he was almost the strongest medium in the United States. Lincoln, of course, had little interest in the mediumistic abilities of his old friend, but the politician remembered one of his rules. "The time will come, fate will give a sign!" - Lamon liked to repeat.

1860, November - when his whole family was so worried about his political career that his wife even fell ill with a nervous fever, Lincoln had a prophetic dream in which a voice asked him: “Do you want to be re-elected for a second presidency? These will be very difficult times for you … "Lincoln, without hesitation, replied:" Yes! But not because I strive for power, but simply think that it is precisely me who will perform the presidential work best of all”.

This strange dream Lincoln told his wife, assuring her that now he knows for sure: he will be elected for a second term. But he did not tell his wife about another phrase from his prophetic dream. After all, after his consent, the voice of Destiny said: “But you will have to pay. You will die in the line of duty! But why worry your spouse with such scary words? Moreover, the prophetic dreams were already troubling Lincoln. One day he dreamed that one of his generals, the commander of the northerners, sent a telegram to the White House about the victory of his troops. Alas, it was only a dream! And when Lincoln woke up, he very much regretted it. At the morning meeting of chiefs of staff, the president wanted to talk about an increase in military spending. And a victory here would be handy.

But a dream is not a reality and not a proof of your innocence. Administration leaders just shook their heads in dismay: "Until there are no victories, you shouldn't ask for money from Congress!" Lincoln flared: "Victory is coming soon!" But the meeting was already closed. And then the president, standing up, said: “We will wait another half hour. I'm expecting a telegram! " - "How do you know that she will come?" Lincoln furrowed his eyebrows stubbornly: "I saw her … in a dream!"

And then the door opened. The secretary came in: “Mr. President! An urgent telegram for you! And this was the very long-awaited message - the correct argument in the president's actions.

1865 - March turned out to be troublesome for the White House. The president fought off attacks from various political parties and groups. Lincoln's days were spent in endless discussions, in exhausting interviews with newspapermen, or even in arguments with his wife Mary, a hot-tempered and eccentric woman who often put her husband at a disadvantage by ridiculing his supporters. Lincoln was nervous and slept in fits and starts. Often he fell asleep not in his bedroom, but in some office of the White House.

That night, oddly enough, managed to go to bed early. An unnatural silence reigned throughout the White House, as if all its many inhabitants - the Lincolns, guards, assistants, and servants - fell asleep in complete silence. But two hours later, Lincoln was awakened by strange sounds, as if someone was crying in the distance.

The President got up, quickly dressed and, taking a candle, went downstairs from his bedroom, located on the second floor. Passing the stairs and corridor flights, the president noticed that for some reason there was no light anywhere. It was also dark on the ground floor, although he heard crying and groans more clearly here than upstairs. But oddly enough, there was no one anywhere. Lighting his path with a candle, Lincoln walked through an entire suite of rooms - crying was heard everywhere, but not a soul was anywhere. The president was scared - where are the servants, assistants, guards ?! Finally, he reached the east wing of the White House and in exhaustion pushed open the heavy door of the Great Hall. It swung open with an ominous creak, and Lincoln froze in the doorway.

In the middle of the hall was a coffin covered with a white blanket. Disconsolate people were crying around. In the front row, Lincoln made out the faces of his wife Mary and Vice President Johnson. “Who died in the White House? What happened?" Lincoln asked one of the guards. "The president! - answered the guard. - He was killed!"

"Can not be! Lincoln wanted to shout. - I'm alive!" But then his consciousness clouded over, and he … woke up.

Only a couple of weeks later, the president decided to tell about his dream. But it was somehow inconvenient to speak - is he a boy to be afraid of dreams ?! Lincoln wrote a letter to his friend Lamon, describing what he saw. This letter has survived in American archives, as has Lamon's reply. The friend was alarmed: “Try to be very careful. You know that every sign has its own secret. Your dream is a warning. Don't go anywhere alone and try to rest!"

1865, April 14, Friday - the President of America went to the theater with his wife, friends and numerous guards. He always loved the stage and adored the actors. In addition, the theater is the most populous place; nothing can happen there with the president whom the whole nation loves!

There was a funny comedy at Ford's theater that night. Lincoln sat in the government box with his wife. The audience enthusiastically applauded the actors' play. There was laughter and hubbub in the theater. And no one noticed how the former actor John Wilkes Booth entered the government box and from behind, almost point-blank, shot at the president. In the noise of the performance, the sound of the shot was almost imperceptible. And only Major Rathbone, who was in the box, realized that the irreparable had happened, and rushed at Booth. But the killer slashed the Major with a knife and jumped out of the box straight onto the stage. The audience decided that this was another acting trick and burst into applause. But then the bloody Rathbone, leaning out of the box, shouted that an attempt had been made on the president. The orchestra conductor tried to detain Booth, but he stabbed him too, after running past the actors, he jumped out through the door on the stage.

Panic began in the theater. Women fainted, men rushed frantically: someone rushed in pursuit of the killer, someone tried to help the president. But the mortally wounded Abraham Lincoln could no longer be helped.

A day later, a memorial service for the assassinated president began in the Great Hall of the East Wing of the White House. In the midst of it, the heavy doors suddenly opened with a creak. Mary Lincoln and Vice President Johnson looked up in fright. But there was no one in the opening of the door.

The escaped Lincoln killer was found only on the night of April 25-26. Booth was hiding in a secluded farm. In the ensuing firefight, he was shot and carried away to the grave the secret of the assassination attempt. It is clear that it was he who shot, but many people took part in the planned conspiracy.

However, not only this mystery worries researchers, but another mystical coincidence that happened a century later. In 1960, 100 years after Lincoln was elected president, John F. Kennedy became the next president of America - just like Lincoln, the favorite of the common people. And he, too, was killed almost 100 years later - in 1963. And, like Lincoln, on Friday, with a large crowd of people and in the presence of his wife. And if Lincoln was shot when he was at the Ford Theater, then John F. Kennedy - when he was driving in a Ford car. And the car was a Lincoln!

The coincidence is even more surprising if you remember that Lincoln's killer, Booth, was born in 1839, and Kennedy's killer, Lee Harvey Oswald, exactly 100 years later, in 1939. Both Booth and Oswald were southerners and members of extremist communities. In both cases, the shots were fired by one person, but there was a whole conspiracy behind it all. But the police did not find the instigators in both the first and second cases.

But the story of prophetic dreams in the White House is not over. Over time, rumors spread throughout the United States that Abraham Lincoln was seen in the White House in the form of … a ghost. The President paced the corridors, hallways and rooms of the building with his characteristic gait, crossing his arms behind his back. Almost all of the later owners of the White House felt his presence: Roosevelt, Eisenhower, the Kennedys, Johnsons, Reagans. Harry Truman, who assumed the presidency of America in 1945, first ridiculed the stories about the ghost of Lincoln, but then abruptly fell silent. He confessed to his wife that he himself once personally saw Abraham in his own bedroom.

And ordinary employees of the White House still often face the assassinated 16th president. One of the telegraphers, leaving the room that had previously served as Lincoln's office, and leaving there the necessary papers for tomorrow, turned off the light. But after a couple of seconds, it lit up again. Apparently, ghosts are also uncomfortable reading dispatches in the dark. When the telegraph operator opened the door and entered the office, he did not find anyone there. Unless it was cold and there was a sharp smell of ozone, which is usually noted after visiting ghosts.

And one day Mary Eben, an assistant to President Roosevelt's wife, entering Lincoln's former bedroom, clearly saw that the murdered Abraham, sitting on the bed, was taking off his shoes. Mary screamed, and Fala, the Roosevelt dog, ran to her cry. But, jumping to the bedroom door, and she got scared - tucked her tail and whined. So, I also realized that not a real person is on the bed.

But worst of all was Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands, who during her visit was settled in one of the rooms that once belonged to the Lincoln family. The apartment itself was quite comfortable, Wilhelmina relaxed, but, getting ready for bed, she heard a knock on the door. As it was getting late, the queen dismissed her maid long ago. After all, servants are entitled to rest. So Wilhelmina had to open the doors herself. Imagine her amazement when on the threshold she saw the ghost of Lincoln, dressed in a tailcoat, as if at a reception. The 16th President of America gave her a searching look, as if he wanted to get a better look, then bowed and … melted into thin air.

In a word, as Clinton's press secretary Michael McCurry summed up: “From time to time there are reports that mysterious visions that resemble famous historical figures appear in the White House, and I believe them. I have heard such stories from serious people, and I have no reason not to believe them …"
