15-month-old Indian woman Nisha was born with a swollen belly. When she was examined at the hospital, a scan showed an unusual mass of flesh and bones inside. During the operation, it turned out that this is a deformed embryo.
In medicine, such cases are called 'fetus in fetu' (embryo in fetus). This happens due to disruptions in the development of twins at an early stage of gestation, when one fetus literally swallows another. Such cases occur in a proportion of 1 in 500,000 pregnancies.
During the operation, the surgeons removed a 3.5 kg mass of flesh, hair and bones from Nisha's body. The parasite was tightly attached to the girl's internal organs by something like an umbilical cord and fed on her blood.
Due to the presence of an abnormal formation in the abdomen, the girl could hardly absorb food and water, since the parasite settled in the stomach area. She often cried in pain. The girl's parents Sumati and Raju thought that their daughter had a tumor.
When over the past few weeks the girl's condition began to deteriorate and she almost did not eat or drink, the child was urgently taken to the hospital. There, the doctors decided that she had a cyst in her stomach and were shocked by what they found during the operation.
