Most of the territory of Greece is covered with mountains. Sharp cliffs, peaks sparkling with eternal snow, mountain meadows, fast rivers and the blue of the sea visible in the distance - this is the usual Greek landscape.
There are over seven thousand caves on the territory of the country, many of which are landmarks due to their historical, archaeological and mythological significance.
Greek mythology is filled with plots related to the underworld. The ancient Greeks believed that the caves are the entrances to the underworld, where Hades rules. Special importance was attached to the caves, as evidenced by the fact that the life of the Greek gods was in one way or another connected with the underworld and caves. According to legend, the supreme god Zeus was born by his mother Rhea in a cave.
The patron saint of shepherds and travelers, the god of trade, Hermes, was born in a cave of Mount Kil-lena. The fertility goddess Artemis and the dream god Somnus lived in caves. Aeolus, god of the air and winds, kept the winds locked up in a cave. Harpies, goddesses of the whirlwind, hideous creatures with vulture bodies and female faces, hid in caves. The one-eyed giant cyclops, who made lightning arrows for Zeus, as the ancient Greeks believed, lived underground and ate human flesh. The cave was inhabited by the man-eating cyclops Polyphemus, who captured Odysseus and his companions. Typhon, a hundred-headed fire-breathing monster lived under Mount Etna, which Zeus piled on him.
It is not surprising that for the modern Greeks, caves are of great importance.
There is a hypothesis that they are transportals, entrances to other worlds parallel to ours.
The famous Mount Pentelikon is located in Attica, near Athens. Marble was mined here in ancient times, the Parthenon and the Acropolis were built from the marble quarried in these quarries. A complex system of branched underground workings, passages and caves has been preserved here to this day.
During the 19th century, these catacombs, called Ntavelis, were a place where outlaw criminals and revolutionaries were hiding from persecution. The total length of the catacombs is unknown, they stretch for many kilometers. At the entrance there is a small Byzantine chapel, and in one of the underground caves there is an ancient temple dedicated to the god Pan.

For decades, Mount Pentelikon and especially the catacombs have been a place of increased paranormal activity. Hundreds of people watched the lights over the mountain, which appear to be nothing more than UFO sidelights. Especially many reports of the sightings of strange lights came in the late 90s. Then in the sky over Pentelikon at night, chains of lights appeared, which changed the shade of their glow, successively passing all the colors of the rainbow.
In 1997-99, ufologists from the Athenian Society for Paranormal Research, led by Alexander Papandopoulos, worked in the Ntavelis Caves. They measured magnetic field strength, pressure, temperature and other characteristics. Strong magnetic field anomalies were found, as well as sharp fluctuations in temperature and pressure.
It is known that all caves are distinguished by the constancy of the microclimate and temperature, regardless of their origin, natural or artificial.
However, in Ntavelis, paranormalists recorded sharp jumps in temperature with an amplitude of 10 degrees, which were observed every day at about 1 am. At the same time, strange sounds were heard, similar to the crowing of a rooster. It is surprising that the audio recording did not record these sounds, and the video equipment did not work underground either. These are clear signs that there is an anomalous zone in Ntavelis.
Moreover, Papandopoulos is sure that there is a transporter here, an entrance to worlds with other dimensions. The famous Greek ufologist believes that this entrance leads to a world lower in relation to ours, closer to hell. It is no coincidence that in ancient times there was a temple of Pan, a god-man with goat's horns, hooves and a beard.
The hypothesis that there is a transporter is also confirmed by the fact that people disappear without a trace in the catacombs. This notoriety of Ntavelis has been going on since the 19th century. So, in the 1890s, the famous bandit and robber Georgy Zakis was hiding here. There were several murders on his account, the authorities announced a prize for information about his whereabouts. Traces led to abandoned quarries. In 1893, policemen with dogs were looking for Zakis in the caves; a former accomplice pointed out the exact place where the bandit was hiding. However, Zakis was never caught.
In one of the caves, they found a smoking hearth, a supply of food and water. There were also several pistols and a rifle, as well as Zakis's clothes and shoes. The impression was that he had stripped naked and gone somewhere. It was strange, because it is very cold underground at any time of the year. They searched for Zakis for a long time, but they never found it. No one ever saw him again.
Since the 1970s, Ntavelis has been a place of pilgrimage for speleologists. Several explorers of the caves were killed, and two of them disappeared without a trace. Friends of the disappeared Greek cavers found their equipment, wetsuits and clothing. Just as in the case of Zakis, the impression was created that for some reason the cavers had stripped naked.
The last frightening case of missing a person without a trace in the catacombs occurred in 2005. Local teenagers often play in the caves. One of them, a fourteen-year-old boy, disappeared without a trace.
All these facts, according to Papandopoulos, indicate that people fall into some kind of spatial hole, which the paranormals call the transporter.
Several years ago, the Greek military department, as part of a NATO project, closed the area of the former marble quarries. Apparently, the military decided to use the workings as an underground bunker. Workers working on the construction of a secret military facility reported hearing strange sounds underground, including rooster crowing, and seeing inexplicable glow in underground tunnels. A year after the start of work, the military project was unexpectedly closed.
Currently, Ntavelis is the domain of speleologists, as well as followers of non-traditional esoteric practices. In particular, members of the Hades religious group meditate underground. The sectarians are sure that a powerful energy flow emanates from the ground in Ntavelis, which can be saturated during meditation and prayer. They have no doubt that their ancestors could descend to the kingdom of Hades and return from there. The entrance to this kingdom is in Ntavelis.
