Among the green hills, transparent lakes and sparkling waterfalls of Colombia, a giant stone of an unusual shape rises alone. Once upon a time, the Tachamis Indians lived nearby, for whom this place was sacred.
This rock-boulder has been standing for 70 million years where it was assigned by nature. Part of it has grown into the ground, but the remaining 220 meters are enough to amaze the human imagination. Residents of two nearby villages, Guatape and El Peñol, have been arguing among themselves for many years who owns this rock.
The war flared up serious, until in 1940 the state took the object under its protection. And even after that, in 1954, the inhabitants of El Peñon had to drive several enterprising Guatapans off the cliff with the whole village.
They decided to designate their territory and managed to draw the first two letters in the name of their city on the rock.
