The 63-year-old Irish resident, whose name has not been revealed, once visited a clinic with symptoms of shoulder pain. Over the years, these pains turned into a huge melon-sized tumor. The tumor, which took up all the free space between the neck and shoulder, became so large that the man could not even turn his head.

Exhausted, he finally went to the clinic for surgical help. This case is reported by the medical journal BMJ Case Reports.

The tumor itself did not cause pain to the man, and at first he even wanted to pierce it with needles, thinking that there was liquid inside. But nothing happened. Doctors examined the tumor, which by that time weighed almost 2 kg, and found that it was a benign formation of adipose tissue, the so-called lipoma.

To the touch, the tumor was soft and well localized (without metastases to other areas of the body). Therefore, the surgeons decided on the operation. They managed to cut out the entire tumor without touching the nerves and muscle fibers, and also removed the excess overgrown skin.

According to the message, the operation was so successful that after it the man will not need additional plastic surgery. Soon he was discharged from the clinic.

Lipomas can occur anywhere on the body, but most often on the trunk and arms. Mostly adults 40-60 years old suffer from them. Most often they are small, soft and painless, no more than a centimeter in size.
