Dreams have a special place in the phenomenon of superperception. After all, sleep is to some extent our second life.
In ancient times, visions that came in a dream were called sacred or divine. Some scholars believe that the road to the realm of clairvoyance may be opened through the Gate of Dreams. "Sleep, dreams and ecstasy, - said Pythagoras, - these are three doors from where the other world comes from, from where comes the science of the soul and the art of prophecy."
Surely all people at least once in their life, but had a prophetic dream. The phenomenon of visionary dreams has been widespread in human society since time immemorial and has become something of a common place, a mental truism in its daily life. From time to time, the reports of prophetic dreams that come true in newspapers and magazines are not particularly surprising to anyone. And this is understandable. Such dreams are one of the norms of our life.
In 1864, researcher A. Debe from France in his "Book of Miracles, or Physiology of the Invisible World" noted:
“Even if one does not recklessly believe in the fulfillment of dreams at all and do not regard them as a warning emanating from some hidden force, then there is no reason, however, to reject the exclusive existence of some dreams, which are fulfilled in their smallest details and are therefore called prophetic dreams. Many observations in this regard do not allow to ascribe to the case the striking correspondences of events, catastrophes and those dreams that foreshadowed them. Despite the skepticism of the rationalists, the prophetic dream is a fact that is often repeated in the stories of a wide variety of people. It can be considered the result of the work of the brain in an emergency state, achieved during sleep under the influence of reasons, which are still very, very difficult to comprehend."
There is a reasoned opinion that deep sleep is a product of civilization. In ancient times, our ancestors could not afford to sleep so deeply - because it could be very expensive - a complete disconnection from the outside world and would have to pay everyone who slept through the signal of danger. And maybe dreams in those days performed partly a protective and entertaining function, maintaining brain activity at a fairly high level.
Often, in the common man, prophetic dreams are associated precisely with the protective function of dreams. A person worries about loved ones, people who are close to him, who may be in some kind of danger. The pictures of wounds, serious illness, death of a loved one that appear in dreams are a signal for the sleeping person. Often, such a dream proceeds in the form of vague images and representations.
Here, for example, is the testimony of our contemporary, a rural resident:

And then the carpenters came and began to divide this barn in half, sawing, then.

Thus, this woman's constant concern about her brother riding a motorcycle coincided with a strange dream and his death.
"Sleep in hand" - they say in such cases.
A lot of talk at one time was caused at the time by the prophetic dream of MV Lomonosov, who in a dream saw that his father had died on a remote uninhabited island in the White Sea. Once in his childhood, he himself found himself on this island during a terrible storm. And in fact, the body of his father was found in this deserted place.
This case can also be explained. Obviously, the long absence of news from his father caused Lomonosov's persistent concern, and old associations revived in the dream - childhood memories of a deserted island, where he was once taken with his father on a fishing boat.
But some of the prophetic dreams that ordinary people see, so to speak, cannot be explained.
A completely mysterious story was published in the Russian magazine "Rebus" in 1885: information about the near future came to a waking person … from someone else's prophetic dream!
“It happened in the winter, at the very beginning of 1882,” writes a participant in the paranormal incident. - Before that, for several months I had a strange need to take a pencil in my left hand and write. It was always written from right to left, so that the text could only be read in the mirror. At the same time, it was usually written extremely quickly and in a beautiful handwriting, not like mine.
Somehow very late in the evening, around two o'clock, I sat up with people close to me for a conversation … And then suddenly I felt the need to write!
I took a pencil, asking a friend of mine, Mrs P., to also grab the pencil with me with my fingers. Thus, we began to write together. We got it: "Faith".
We asked:
- What is Vera?
Then the surname of one of my young relatives was written, with whose families I recently resumed relations after a long break. We were even more surprised and asked: is this the same VM?
The written answer turned out to be:
- Yes. I am sleeping. But I came here to say that we will see you tomorrow at 3 pm in the Summer Garden.
On this I finished writing, and Mrs P. and I parted …
The next day, about an hour, A. N. M-ov came to me and, after sitting with me until two and a half hours, began to get ready to leave. Since I had not yet gone out that day, I volunteered to accompany him. We went together and continued to talk.
Mechanically I walked where he went. And then I lived at the corner of Spasskaya and Znamenskaya. We walked along Spasskaya, then along Panteleimonovskaya and then across the Chain Bridge. Then he glanced at his watch and said that it was time for him, that he should take a cab.
I said goodbye to him and again mechanically entered the open gates of the Summer Garden.
As a rule, I never walk in the Summer Garden in winter.
It should be noted here that I completely forgot about yesterday's scripture.
The first thing that happened when I entered the Summer Garden was that I came face to face with V. M. and her companion. VM, seeing me, was apparently very embarrassed and confused. I, in turn, was also embarrassed, because I remembered yesterday. We shook hands in silence and quickly dispersed.
In the evening I went to visit them, and her mother told me that VM is a big dreamer. Like, when she returned from the Summer Garden, she was in an excited state and, like a miracle, announced that she had met me, that before that she had seen me in a dream - as if she had visited my house and told me that she would meet me at 3 hours of the day in the Summer Garden”.
