The Iranian clinic Payambaran in Tehran underwent the country's second caesarean section late last week, which used hypnosis instead of conventional traditional anesthesia, Iranian newspaper Payvand reported. The caesarean section was performed by surgeon Roya Hodei and hypnotherapist Hossein Almazyan

The woman in labor, Sarah Tavassoli, was put into a state of hypnosis by doctors, after which the surgeons made the first incision. No additional anesthetic agents were used, according to the newspaper. According to the doctors, the operation was successful.

The first caesarean section under hypnosis was performed in Iran in June 2007. Then, to prepare for the operation, 26-year-old Aida Hassanlou attended hypnotherapy courses for four months. The caesarean section lasted about 40 minutes. At the same time, the patient felt mild pain, and the doctors completely controlled her condition. As a result, a girl weighing 3.95 kg was born.

According to Iranian doctors, a caesarean section under hypnosis is safer for patients than traditional methods of pain relief. This method completely blocks painful sensations without causing a sedative effect, as well as side effects. In their opinion, in the future, hypnosis may replace traditional anesthesia in high-risk patients.
