Young children begin to become aware of other people's intentions at a much earlier age than scientists thought - recent research shows that infants become fully aware of other people's intentions as early as eighteen months.
At the same time, one-year-old babies also already possess some skills of "reading thoughts", in particular, they show empathy, which, as it was believed, quite recently, is formed in children only by the age of four to seven years.
British scientists, as reported by the politexpert.net resource, conducted a large-scale experimental study, with the help of which they proved the relevant assumptions.
“We examined nearly a hundred children, whose minimum age was eighteen months and the maximum was five years. According to the conditions of the experiment, an adult had to enter the room with the child, guided by a very specific intention - the adult had to hide scissors in the room,”says one of the authors of the study.
Studying the reactions of children, which were recorded using video, scientists saw that even the smallest children were fully aware of the intention of an adult.
