Seeing his brother's ruthlessness and determination, the true heir to the throne of Moggallan decided to flee from the palace to southern India.
For many years, Kassapa suffered in anticipation of the return of the rightful heir. To protect himself, he built a palace on the top of the mountain, surrounded it with high walls and deep trenches filled with water. The palace could only be reached by a high staircase with carved stone steps, but at the same time it was necessary to go through a huge and terrible lion's mouth. Because of her, people called the city Sigiriya, which means "Lion's Rock".

But after 18 years, happy times passed and one night the cruel king saw a myriad army that was advancing on his fortress from the north, at the head of him was Moggallan.
