The idea that a person's thoughts have a direct impact on his health has received new scientific confirmation. Scientists from the Universities of Oxford and Geneva have proved that hypochondriacs live on average less than those who are confident in their excellent health.
Researchers have observed 6 thousand people aged 41 to 91 for as long as 29 years, thanks to which they were able to draw such conclusions.
At the very beginning, the study participants were subjected to detailed questionnaires, on the basis of which their habits and daily routine were found out, as well as their own assessment of their health status.
Subsequently, it turned out that even smoking has a smaller effect on life expectancy than the tendency to hypochondria. People who positively assess their state of health, while, indeed, as a rule, live long.
The results of the study came as a surprise even to scientists. Of course, they guessed about the mental impact on health, but believed that it would be expressed to a much lesser extent.
