Beginning: "The Philadelphia Experiment. Background".
The US Navy destroyer DE 173 Eldridge was chosen for the experiment. It was decided to conduct the experiments at the naval base in Philadelphia, in an atmosphere of special secrecy. The experiment itself was called "Rainbow", but it became better known due to the location.
In early autumn, special equipment (magnetrons) was installed on the ship, which, as planned, were supposed to create an electromagnetic cocoon around the ship.
The first attempt to hide the ship from the radars was crowned with relative success - after turning on the generators, the ship was shrouded in a kind of greenish fog (I would like to remind you of the fog when you turn on the Lovondatr). The fact that the radars stopped seeing the Eldridge was an absolute success, but no one expected to disappear from the sight of people. However, he disappeared from view, although the water retained a dent from the ship's hull.
Such a disappearance from sight was completely useless. How can you lead a squadron if its ships are invisible? They will simply ram each other - and no enemy is needed. The inspection of the crew also did not please - many of the sailors vomited, they were insane. It was decided to adjust the parameters of the electromagnetic field and change the ship's crew.
By October 28, 1943, all the necessary adjustments were made, the crew was replaced and joint training sessions were conducted on sailing. Everything was ready.
At first, the experiment went quite well, when the magnetic field generators were turned on, the ship began to be shrouded in fog, but at first it did not want to disappear from the radar screens. What was happening with the Eldridge was controlled from another destroyer, Andrew Fureset. Since the goal was not achieved, it was decided to increase the field power.

Strengthening the work of the generators made it possible to achieve a more definite effect - the ship began to lose the clarity of its outlines, along with this, as it were, fading, becoming translucent. At the same time, the intensity of its mark on the radars began to decrease. Soon the destroyer was enveloped in a bright blue flash and it disappeared completely - neither radars nor people could see it. Even the dent from the case, which was observed in the first experiment, disappeared. The large surface combat ship seemed to have completely disappeared into oblivion, without even making a farewell bow.
However, after a while DE 173 "Eldridge" returned to the port of Philadelphia in a completely visible state. Of course, the observers immediately jumped on board the ship. What he saw shocked the seasoned sea wolves, who were not by hearsay familiar with death in battle. The impression was that the ship had been to the underworld.
This time it was not without human losses - in general, the loss of the crew could only be compared with a heavy lost sea battle. Before the start of the experiment, the ship's crew was 181 people. Only 21 of them were not affected at all. The fate of another 40 turned out to be tragic - 27 crew members were literally combined with the ship's structures, becoming their part; 13 - died for various reasons, fear, exposure to a strong electromagnetic field, electric shock.
After a while, information appeared that during the absence of the Eldridge in Philadelphia, the destroyer was seen in the port of Norfolk. The distance between these cities is more than 320 kilometers, so instead of an invisibility experiment, we got a teleportation experiment.
The failure was absolute. Although the result was of colossal scientific interest and was very suitable for the military for further research, it was decided to stop the experiment.
If you bring the experiment to mind, then the fleet will suffer heavy losses without the influence of the Imperial Navy. All the data of the unsuccessful experience was classified and they surfaced only in 1956 in a letter received by astrophysicist Maurice Jessup from a certain Carlos Allende.
