Ufological situation
UFOs in Australia are often sighted and scrutinized. This country plays one of the main roles in the ufological world. Although there is strong belief among the population in the so-called "extraterrestrial hypothesis" about aliens visiting Earth, Australian Keith Busterfield became the founder of the "fantasy theory", which he put forward in 1987; in his opinion, UFO eyewitnesses are unusually rich in imagination.
There are known cases of UFO sightings in previous centuries, and reports of air ships, planes and "fu-fighters" appeared here even before 1947. Tasmanian fishermen frequently reported UFOs during World War II, prompting the Australian Air Force to investigate. Recently, contacts of all types have been noted. Little significance was attached to the abductions in this country, and individual cases have received publicity only since the late 1980s. Nonetheless, numerous hindsight investigations have yielded a very impressive list of cases that have occurred from the 1950s to the present day.
The Australian Air Force has been formally responsible for conducting UFO investigations since 1952 and continues to do so to this day. Experts work closely with the Pentagon, and videos are even sent to the CIA for analysis. In turn, the US Department of Defense has moved away from publishing Australian materials on UFOs (as well as British data), although it periodically publishes materials from other countries received through diplomatic channels.
A surprising fact happened in 1982, when, on the eve of the release of the freedom of information law, the Australian government invited the prominent ufologist Bill Choker to Canberra to analyze the secret documents stored there, allowing him to make copies and distribute them among members of the ufological community. These materials opened up a long history of interest in UFOs on the part of the Australian authorities for ufologists.
However, Air Force investigations have rarely been productive or thorough enough. Many cases were explained, although mysterious facts remained. The materials handed over to Choker do not give grounds to talk about a concealment of information and even to believe that the authorities generally shared the opinion about the reality of alien aircraft.
Nonetheless, the documents show surprise at the most plausible evidence. However, in general, the position of the researchers, clearly dictated from high offices, says that during the investigations, no "any solid evidence" of alien contacts was found.
This position remains valid to this day, although on average 100 incidents are reported to the Australian Air Force annually.

Contacts
Australia has had impressive UFO encounters. On August 23, 1953, at Port Moresby, New Guinea, Tim Drury, Deputy Minister of Civil Aviation, filmed a UFO resembling a rocket that swept across the sky in broad daylight. Thanks to Drury's authority, surveillance was taken extremely seriously and scrutinized in Canberra and Washington. The case was never explained, but when the tape was returned to Drury a few months later, all the UFO footage was gone. Only 30 years later, Bill Choker took up the case, who managed to find photocopies of the film frames made by military experts and in the end return to the eyewitness at least part of the material seized from him.
Another notable incident occurred on May 28, 1965, during a wave of observations in Queensland. The aircraft "DS-6", flying over the Bougainville reef, which is part of the Great Barrier Coral Reef, met with an oval object, throwing out a jet of gas. The crew filmed the UFO on videotape, which, along with the onboard video camera, was allegedly confiscated upon landing. The details of this incident have not been made public even in the published BBC archives.
During this same prolonged wave of observations in the jungle and swamps of northeastern Australia, in the reeds of Tully River south of Cairns, the forerunners of modern crop circles emerged. The film, filmed by a video camera installed on site in order to catch a UFO at the moment of landing - and it was the UFO that was believed to be the cause of the crumpled reed circles - also disappeared during the investigation. One gets the impression that the missing footage is the leitmotif of Australian ufology.
But by far the most famous case is the disappearance of pilot Frederick Valentich over Brass Strait on October 21, 1978, in the midst of yet another large-scale wave of sightings. Valentich reported to the flight control center about close contact with strange lights that caused the engine to malfunction, after which neither the pilot nor his plane could be found. Opinions still differ as to whether the sighting of a UFO with fatal consequences really took place or whether it was a staged act designed to hide the reasons for the deliberate disappearance of Valentich. The investigation, which has been carried out for 3 years, has not given an answer to this question.
Close contact in 1973 near Kimba in South Australia: the creature in the "frame" appeared in front of the drivers of the cars in the form of a light projection.
In Australia, there have also been contacts of the TK4 type, classified by some ufologists as particularly significant - the so-called “witness kidnapping”. The incident took place in August 1993 in the Dendenong Mountans north of Melbourne. A UFO hovered above the ground near the car in which Kelly Cahill and her husband were sitting. The couple experienced the classic symptoms of stealthy abduction with time lapses, physical ailments and nightmares that gradually turned into memories of contact with tall, black-suited creatures trying to kidnap Kelpie's husband. Eventually, Kelly remembered the signs of another car parked near the UFO. Kelly did not know the passengers of this car, but as a result of a large-scale investigation, she managed to get on the trail of these eyewitnesses. They were all extremely surprised to hearthat another car was present at the scene as no one had seen it. Nevertheless, they managed to remember about UFOs and aliens and compose their description, similar to the story of Kelly Cahill. Moreover, they reported a third car with only a male driver. According to the description, he was also found. The driver did not report what he saw, believing that he was the only eyewitness and no one would believe him, but he confirmed the fact of contact. No evidence of staging was found. This case, perhaps more than others, brings us closer to proving the objective reality and physical nature of aliens and abductions. Eyewitnesses said that these creatures were gray, but not stunted, like the popular heroes of stories published in modern media. Although there are other reports of stunted creatures, especially after 1987, in most cases, as in the above, there are tall and more human-like aliens.
The largest waves in Australia repeated periodically: in 1954, in early 1966, in early 1969, and also in May-June 1973. In addition, in October 1978, there was an intense surge over Victoria. Landing cases are concentrated in the Queensland Marshes and Mally Wheat Zone in South Australia. The most active special zone is the town of Kempsey in New South Wales, although the inhospitable area of Nullarbor, which lies between Adelaide and Perth, is located in the inhospitable area to the south and has much more close contacts.
