Reddit user "spauldrs1" reports.

“Several years ago I met my wife, whose mother had died shortly before. She was a highly regarded doctor in her hospital, and then it turned out that she herself needed heart surgery to replace the valve. The operation was performed by her colleagues whom she knew, and the operation went well. However, when they began to restart her heart, something went wrong.

She was urgently transported to another clinic, but after a few days it became clear that her heart had not begun to beat on its own. It was decided to turn off the life support apparatus and let her die in peace.

Fast forward a few years later when I met my wife and our second meeting was the anniversary of her mother's death. It was a very sad day, although it should have been different, but we tried to joke that Mom helped us get to know each other better.

Soon we got married, and then our first son was born (we have two in total). It was very difficult for my wife to endure all this without my mother by her side. She really missed her at the wedding, during pregnancy, childbirth and after. Trying to cope, my wife began to earn extra money on weekends as a psychologist and help people with their troubles. And so on the weekend, only I sat with our son Grant.

That particular Saturday it was again and there was only a cat in the house besides the two of us. And Grant, as luck would have it, did not want to fall asleep, he always had this feature, and that time I rocked him for half an hour before he finally closed his eyes.

I carried him neatly in my arms to his room, very carefully stepping on the floor, as there were rather creaky boards. And then he also gently tiptoed back out. I left the room door open.

There was no radio or TV in our house, so when our son's crying subsided, complete silence reigned in the house. I went to the bathroom to wash my hands and then stared at myself in the mirror for a couple of seconds. And at that moment I heard a distinct female voice coming from the side of my son's bedroom.

This voice said “I love you” and it sounded very gentle and sincere, like the voice of a mother admiring her child. But my wife was not at home, I was alone, and therefore a chill ran down my spine.

Then I pulled myself together and went to Grant's bedroom. And it was empty except for my son, sleeping in his crib.

Then nothing frightening happened in the house, there were no ominous shadows and other things, no ghosts. There was also no sense of the presence of something otherworldly. I myself believe that this was my late mother-in-law, who came to visit her first grandson, whom she did not have time to see during her lifetime.

I told my wife about this incident and my thoughts on the matter and she is quite skeptical about it. First of all, because my mother did not come to her. I think I'm just more open to the paranormal and that's why I heard her voice.

After the birth of our second son, we moved to another house and there were some strange things here too. The light could turn off or on by itself, our dog sat for 15 minutes, staring at an empty corner of the room, and so on. I think my mother-in-law is still looking after us from above."
