Russian scientists, assigned to RSC Energia, managed to charge a mobile phone at a distance of 1.5 km. This extreme charging is made possible by a laser system.
Scientists conducted the experiment in a high-rise building in Korolevo near Moscow. A 10-centimeter smartphone was installed on the roof of a high-rise building. Opposite this building, at a distance of 1.5 km on the 6th floor, scientists have marked a special laser installation.
As the participants in the experiment noted, this process was more like shooting from a sniper rifle, where the target was a smartphone. The device, converting the energy of the laser beam into electricity, was transferred to a mobile phone charger. The "shot" was very accurate, because an hour later, the phone was charged. Now the expert group is calculating the indicators of the effectiveness of this event. Then the scientists plan to charge the battery of the drone hovering in the sky with a "aimed laser shot".
Further, scientists intend to continue a series of similar experiments in space on board the ISS. It is planned that the astronauts will transmit energy using this laser channel to the transport shuttle Progress.
