In medieval Europe, beer was actively used by doctors to treat kidney diseases and bronchial asthma, but today the drink is considered one of the main reasons for a hangover and the development of the so-called "beer heart", when the muscle organ works in an enhanced mode and sags. Chemists from the Ural Federal University and their colleagues from St. Petersburg University ITMO decided to create a truly healthy beer that does not cause a hangover and saturates the human body with useful substances.

According to Professor Elena Kovaleva, their work mainly consists in changing the properties of yeast by regulating the temperature of the surrounding conditions, as well as in the use of flavoring additives. To remove the hangover effect, the researchers decided to update the composition of the beer, and to provide drink drinkers with even more vitamins - to use waste beer grains to make nutritional bars.

Healthy beer with vitamins

Researchers want to add kudzu root extracts to the new beer, which contain isoflavone, which reduces the toxic effects of alcohol. Chlorella algae can also be among the components, which also contribute to weakening the hangover effect. Thus, drinkers will be able to get the vitamins B1 and B2 contained in it, as well as nicotinic acid, which is good for the heart - and all this without a hangover.

To provide people with an additional set of vitamins, scientists want to develop a recipe for cookies and bars from a waste product - brewer's grains. It represents the boiled malt left after boiling and pumping the wort, which is usually used for animal feed. This is despite the fact that it contains starch, fiber, vitamins and prebiotics - substances that are especially useful for humans.

Alexander Cherepanov, deputy director of the center for work with enterprises, shared that the Ural Federal University is already ready to cooperate with interested manufacturers. However, the release date of hangover beer and vitamin bars is still unknown.

Beer will become a scarce drink

Meanwhile, the scientific journal Nature Plants Monday recently published research results predicting a beer shortage in 2099. Such a turn of events may occur due to climate change - the global barley harvest will decline from 3 to 17%, and the drink will become very expensive. With the onset of such a time, some countries will be able to make good money on the deficit.
