The main problem of modern cryonics (the science of freezing living tissues) is the difficulty in defrosting these tissues in such a way that ice crystals do not damage living material. Therefore, all over the world, research is underway to create a safe technology for "defrosting". And the first in the world to do this were domestic specialists from the Advanced Research Fund (FPI), headed by Professor Anatoly Kovtun.

In a series of experiments, the frog's heart was frozen at a temperature of minus 196 degrees Celsius, and after 45 days it was successfully thawed and the organ's activity was restored. Such success can become a real breakthrough in transplantation, because thanks to long-term cryopreservation of tissues and organs, they can be preserved much longer than now. Moreover, some organs can be stored in special storage facilities and thawed as needed, without forcing the patient to risk his life while waiting for the donor organ. As Professor Kovtun said in an interview with RIA Novosti, “To date, the concept of vitrification of biological objects has been developed and experimentally substantiated on cell, tissue and organ models, which provides freezing without crystallization under conditions of a 20-30 percent reduced total concentration of cryoprotectants. For example, on a rat aorta model, the restoration of the endothelial and smooth muscle layers of the vessel at the level of 85-95 percent of living cells after freezing to cryogenic temperatures has been proven.
