Skull photographed by the robot "Curiosity", with teeth

The photo in which enthusiasts spotted a dinosaur skull is almost two years old. The robot "Curiosity" (Mars Science Laboratory Curiosity) made it in June 2013 - on the 297th day of its stay on the Red Planet. Photographed with the so-called right-hand camera on a pole (Mastcam: Right). The skull image was one of 176 taken that day with this camera. But the enthusiasts discovered both the photo itself and the object that attracted their attention only the other day. They - enthusiasts - or, as they are also called, virtual archaeologists, have such a leisurely work. Consider the pictures posted on the official NASA website. There are hundreds of thousands of them. And when something amazing comes across in this heap, the public is notified.

Now there is a "skull". Of course, this is a stone, but it is very similar to the remains of some animal. The lower one is a movable jaw … The upper one has nostrils and teeth that sparkle in the sun in an amazing way … The rest is buried in the sand. Part of the "skull" did not get into the frame - the image ends where the "eye socket" begins.

But here's what's strange. "Teeth" in color and texture are strikingly different from "skull". As if they really grow out of it. This is not typical of stones. Maybe the object is still not a stone, but a fossil? Experts - virtual paleontologists, by the way, assure that the size and shape of the teeth indicate that the dinosaur was herbivorous.

BY THE WAY ABOUT BIRDS

There were ostriches here

Objects that look like bird skulls were photographed by one of Curiosity's predecessors, the Spirit robot, just 16 days after landing in Gusev Crater in 2004.

The author of the find is the famous virtual archaeologist Joseph Skipper in the past. He made out in the picture fossilized bones with eye sockets and protruding jaws or beaks.

Some paleontologists and biologists agreed with the "archaeologist". They wished to remain anonymous. But they sent images in the subject - the fossil remains of a lizard that lived in the Jurassic period, and the skull of a modern cheetah. In fact, they have something in common with Skipper's "find".

The head in the foreground is the smaller one with a long beak, as if from the fossil bird Archeopteryx. But it looks like both ostrich and turkey at the same time.

By the way, next to the "skulls" are stones with rounded holes, suspiciously similar to vertebrae or hip remains.
