Quantum physicists from Purdue University in Indiana and Tsinghua University in Beijing have decided on an ambitious experiment - teleportation of a living organism, Unknown Country reports.
For the experiment with quantum superposition, the researchers decided to use the most common microorganism - a bacterium. Previously, only inanimate objects were subjected to teleportation, so if successful, the experiment with the bacterium will become a huge event in the world of science.
- Despite the huge interest, the state of the quantum superposition of the organism has not yet been realized. Therefore, we propose to directly introduce the microbe into a superposition of two spatial states, that is, so that the microbe is in two different positions at the same time,”explains scientist Tonkan Li from Purdue University.
To implement the project, scientists use a device with an oscillating aluminum membrane, created at the University of Colorado.
- It will be great to put the body in two different places at the same time. In many tales, a fairy can appear simultaneously in two different places and disappear instantly. It will be like such a fairy tale. Although there will be a microbe instead of a fairy,”added Tonkan Li.
