“We got a second chance to save these rare creatures, which is a rarity in itself,” said Alexander Mikheev from the Institute of Science and Technology in Okinawa, Japan.
These large insects, about 15 centimeters long and weighing about 25 grams, lived on the volcanic island of Lord Howe in the Tasman Sea, and "thrived before the arrival of man there," the study said.

Experts led by Dr. Edward Mitchell of the Swiss University of Neuchâtel tested 198 honey samples from every continent except Antarctica for pesticides and found that 75% contained at least one species.
According to experts, the data obtained can be called "alarming", "sobering" and perceived as a real threat to the environment. Only a complete ban on the use of pesticides can protect bees from exposure to harmful substances.
