Back in 2007, Tata Motors struck a deal with the French firm Motor Development International (MDI) to produce a compressed air vehicle. The project, which both companies are working on, was named Airpod. The new Tata vehicle will be the answer to environmental degradation and energy shortages.
Tata Motors' new compressed air-powered vehicle could be launched in the country in three years, according to some emerging internet reports. The manufacturer has already successfully completed the first phase of the project.
Driver + two passengers = most requested form factor.
The second stage of detailed development began several years ago. Dr. Tim Leverton, President and Head of Advanced and Product Engineering, Tata Motors, said in an interview with Autocar Professional, "We are now at the stage where we begin to industrialize (the project)."
These types of vehicles will weigh less than conventional vehicles due to the aluminum construction. Air-powered vehicles will weigh less than 907 kg, making them even more fuel efficient. The Airpod concept includes joystick control of the machine. A trip by this car will cost about 32 rubles per 100 km.
Tata Motors hasn't revealed too many details about its upcoming aerial vehicle. But such data are known - the serial model Airpod will develop a maximum speed of more than 65 km / h, and the range of travel at one gas station today is about 200 km.
