The famous space station contains the REX radio spectrometer. It is a kind of block with a two-meter directional antenna, designed to probe the atmosphere and determine the temperature of Pluto's surface. According to Yorio, the tool can be used to identify trans-Neptunian objects.
Thanks to REX, it is possible to measure the trajectory of the spacecraft with an accuracy of 10 meters. According to the calculations of the Italian scientist, New Horizons will be able to identify stone planetoids, the size of which will be similar to the Earth and Jupiter.
In his scientific work, the specialist notes that the apparatus can even find planets X. However, he fears that it will be very difficult to obtain images of such distant space objects.
Today, New Horizons is moving towards an asteroid from the Kuiper belt. This object was selected for study after a flyby near Pluto in 2015. The device will approach the asteroid in January 2019.
