An American scientist from the University of Pennsylvania Greg Eghigian said that the main reason for the appearance of such a large number of UFOs in our time is the recent "cold war" between the developed countries of the planet.
The scientist substantiates his hypothesis with the conclusions that it was the consequences of the Cold War that provoked the emergence among the planet's population of an atmosphere of secrecy and distrust of the authorities of their countries.
People simply stopped believing their leaders and the controlled press and began to investigate all recorded UFO sightings themselves or with the help of interested media.
Eghigiyan published his scientific research in Public Understanding of Science. In them, the scientist conducted a study in which, when studying the materials, he found that mentions of UFOs in the media appeared, as a rule, against the background of high-profile political scandals, world conspiracies, outbreaks of revolutions, and so on.
The first such reference recorded in the press was an article from 1947 in which aviator Kenneth Arnold describes an unknown aerial phenomenon that he saw during a flight. The pilot noticed nine globular objects glowing in the sky, circling over the Cascade Mountains in the United States.
