Astronaut Leland Devon Melvin made two flights on the Atlantis shuttles in 2009-2010 and spent a total of 23 days in space.
In 2011, he retired to work at NASA headquarters in Washington DC.
Melvin recently met on Twitter with popular ufologist Scott Waring and the ufologist asked him two questions: "What do you think about the possibility of intelligent alien life in our solar system?" and "Have you ever seen a UFO yourself?"
In response, Leland revealed that he saw something unusual during his flight on the Atlantis shuttle with colleague Randy Breznik. The shuttle was then already in Earth orbit.
According to the astronaut, he noticed something "translucent, curved and definitely organic." Leland immediately thought of an alien life form and even wanted to contact the center and say "Houston, we have a problem." But then he realized that because of these words a great commotion would begin in the center and decided to keep silent.
Later, when both astronauts returned to earth, Leland still asked NASA employees what it could be and he was told that it was most likely a piece of ice that came out of the cooling device.
After his words, Twitter users began to write that such an explanation is very similar to NASA's concealment of the facts of the existence of extraterrestrial life.

Leland replied that he accepted this explanation and believed NASA, but added that "you will never know for sure what it was."
UFO scientist Nigel Watson, author of UFOs of the First World War, is sure that Melvin did see a real alien creature.
“Fortunately, he didn't get close to him. Otherwise, this creature could jump on his face and we all know what would happen next (apparently, like in science fiction films)."
