The mummy, dating from about the 1st century AD, was discovered in the Tyva Republic during the rescue of local archaeological sites from the flood zone of the Sayano-Shushenskaya hydroelectric power station. Scientists of a joint expedition of the Russian Geographical Society (RGO) and the Institute for the History of Material Culture of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IIMK RAS) found a unique artifact. They are excavating several ancient burial grounds located at the low tide of a reservoir formed on the Yenisei. The burial grounds are exposed when the water level drops and become available for research from late spring to mid-summer.
The mummy is in a stone "box", - reports the portal of the Russian Geographical Society. It appears to be well preserved, with experts distinguishing between soft tissues, leather and clothing details.
The one who went to the next world was supplied with food in pots.
“On the mummy, presumably silk robes, a belt embroidered with beads with a jet buckle, apparently with a pattern,” said Natalya Solovyova, deputy director of IIMK RAS. - Near the head was found a round wooden box covered with birch bark with a Chinese mirror in a felt case inside. On the chest there is a bag of pine nuts. Next to the mummy there are 2 vessels, in which there was a funeral meal.
The box, assembled from slabs, in which the mummy was found: they had not yet dug to it.
