The recently published secret documents of the US Central Intelligence Agency regarding UFO sightings in the 1940-50s caused a lot of excitement in the press. Journalists who have already read the text have found "surreal information" in documents declassified under the heading "Look into our X-Files" and timed to the release of the new season of the world famous American TV series The X-Files ("The X-Files") …
TECH Insider has identified seven of the most surreal UFO documents released from the CIA archives. Among them: a memo from the assistant director of the department of scientific research to the director of the CIA from 1952, which refers to "the vulnerability of the United States in the light of possible attacks from flying saucers"; report on unexplained lights in the sky over Tashkent; report on the appearance of luminous celestial bodies over uranium mines in the Belgian Congo.
The CIA report of 1952 attracted special attention of journalists, in which the department's leadership calls thousands of reports about UFOs and flying saucers as fictions and fakes. Nevertheless, further in the text is the recommendation of the command officer to pay attention to the potential threat and continue to monitor unidentified objects. At the same time, all CIA employees have been ordered not to spread about this in the press or in public.
The CIA explained that the analysis of the materials was carried out on the basis of an investigation in 1978 related to unidentified flying objects. "Here you will find documents that X-Files characters would like," the authors of the publication note, referring to the heroes of the popular television series, whose 10th season was released in late January after an eight-year hiatus. The bulk of the archival material is devoted to observations made from the late 1940s and in the 1950s. The CIA divided the documents into two groups, depending on skepticism and optimism about UFOs belonging to extraterrestrial civilizations.
“Below you will find documents that we think Agent Fox Mulder would love to use in his work to convince others of the existence of extraterrestrial activity. We've also posted five documents that we believe his skeptical partner Dana Scully can use to scientifically prove the existence of a UFO,”reads the document description.
1952 documents report flying objects seen in eastern Germany, over Spain and northern Africa. The CIA also posted minutes of meetings of various commissions and detailed instructions for observing UFOs.
None of the posted documents provide evidence of a UFO connection with aliens, since most of the data does not contain enough material for scientific analysis.
Exactly one year ago, 12,618 reports of the US Air Force were published on the Internet, united in a project called "Blue Book". The portal contains reports of UFO sightings from 1947 to 1969. We are talking about UFO sightings at the very time when the Americans mastered the technology of flight into space, and then in 1969 made a landing on the moon. According to the US Air Force, most of the observations have nothing to do with alien civilizations and are explained by natural phenomena in the Earth's atmosphere. But 701 of them, or 5.5% of the archive, have not received convincing scientific explanations.

Among the unexplained phenomena, in particular, is the story of Kenneth Arnold. It is this man who is believed to have come up with the name "flying saucer". On June 24, 1947, a man observed a group of nine UFOs flying at high speed near the plane he was on board. His story was replicated by newspaper people, and he became famous.
It is worth noting that in the 50-60s of the XX century, at the height of the Cold War, Hollywood made films in which aliens were often creatures unfriendly to people, and they moved on disc-shaped devices. These UFOs were a metaphor for the USSR threatening America. Thanks to the Dream Factory, a collective psychosis was born: people who watched the films saw alien spaceships everywhere.
However, experts on the topic of aliens say that there is no information from the published files about the Roswell incident, recorded in July 1947 in New Mexico. It was with him that the UFO craze began.
On that day, July 8, 1947, officials at the US Roswell Air Base reported the discovery of a flying saucer wreck. But after just a few hours, 8th Air Force Commander Brigadier General Roger Rami spoke on the radio with a rebuttal: “The debris is currently in my office, and as far as I can tell, there is nothing special here. The gizmo, a star-shaped aluminum foil screen that reflects radar signals, can only fly depending on the wind speed. Then the military organized a press conference at which they continued to defend the version according to which the wreckage of a meteorological probe was found in Roswell.
Currently, Roswell has a thriving tourism business, which has grown from the city's fame as the crash site of a flying saucer. And the International UFO Museum holds the UFO Festival here every year.
Retired U. S. Air Force lieutenant colonel tells how he saw a UFO in the 1950s
In 2013, an elderly retired US Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Richard French said he saw UFOs and aliens back in the 1950s. At the time, the lieutenant colonel collaborated with the Blue Book project, which collected and analyzed UFO reports. French's job was to suppress false reports on this topic, which included going to the place of alleged contacts with aliens.
It is significant that in 1970 the Blue Book project was closed, and its initiators admitted that no aliens and their ships did not exist. It turns out that all this time, Richard French kept memories that he did not tell anyone about. In 2013, the officer suddenly spoke about his experience at a hearing in Washington.
So, in the early 50s, residents of the Canadian city of St. John's turned to the authorities with a statement that they saw several unidentified objects off the Atlantic coast. The investigation was entrusted to Officer French. He was given the following information: two suspicious vehicles plunged into the water at a speed of over 150 km / h.
Arriving at the coast, French found many onlookers there, including local police. Everyone stared at the clear water, where two flying saucers were visible, about 5.5 meters in diameter and less than a meter in height. The objects floated underwater at a distance of several meters from each other and from the shore. Then the military made out and "aliens".
“They were from half a meter to a meter tall, light gray in color, with very thin long arms, two or three fingers. The top of the head was much wider than the jaw, the eyes were slanted and seemed to have no pupils. They looked exactly like movie aliens,”says French.
Then, he said, one ship flew out of the water but returned. The creatures performed some actions, and after about 20 minutes both plates left the Atlantic Ocean, rose and quickly disappeared from view.
Richard French explained that, given his tasks, he then filed a bogus report. What he saw was retold in it vaguely - the alien ships were described as some kind of vehicles. However, now the retired lieutenant colonel is sure that he saw aliens who were repairing their plate and checking its reliability.
