In the east of the English ceremonial county of Berkshire, there is the small town of Ruscombe, famous for its Church of St. James. The religious building, erected at the beginning of the twelfth century, is not only an important tourist attraction, but also the object of curious local legends.

Rumor has it that in the building and near it sometimes you can meet in the dark the ghost of the gatekeeper, who almost five centuries ago guarded the gate in this place, when the church was still surrounded by a high fence.

According to an urban legend, a young churchman fell unconsciously in love with a beautiful girl who lived in the present town of Rascombe, which was then still a village. Nevertheless, for initiation into the clergy, the watchman took a vow of celibacy, which he could no longer refuse. His beloved visited the parish every day, but soon got married and left her native village with her husband. The priest's feelings were so strong that he went to live as a hermit in the forest and died there of melancholy. Since then, his spirit has settled here.

Some locals claim that in late autumn at night you can see a whitish human figure that swiftly floats through the air from the church towards the suburban forest - just like the unfortunate gatekeeper once left his abode. A day passes, and the restless spirit again finds itself in a stone building, again making its sad pilgrimage to the forest.

Mysterious ghost of strange outlines

The photo below was taken a few days ago by a resident of Rascombe, Helen Andrea. The forty-seven-year-old accountant was taking a traditional morning bike ride and decided to photograph the Church of St. James in the light of dawn. Returning home, the woman saved the resulting photo to a computer and suddenly noticed a mysterious detail in the picture.

At the entrance to the structure, a strange light object was imprinted, similar to a clot of fog. Helen showed the photo to her husband, and he immediately remembered the aforementioned legend about the ghost of a churchman. The couple unanimously considered that it was he who was depicted in the picture. A phantom does not look like a person, but it certainly cannot be a glare of light or an artifact of shooting.

The British have posted an unusual photo on the Internet, and the picture has already flown around many sites. Various regulars of the World Wide Web saw in the mysterious outlines at the church door a bird, a kettle, a feather, a head in a raccoon hat, and even the logo of a local diner. But almost everyone admitted that it really was a ghost …
