By looking at their fingers, a person can learn much more about himself than is commonly believed. Hands are able to tell about the physical and mental state of a person, about specific features of her character and even diseases.

2D ratio: 4D

When studying the features of human hands, the most intriguing thing for researchers is the ratio of the length of the index (which is designated as 2D) and ring (4D) fingers. The so-called 2D: 4D ratio. Typically in men, the ring finger is longer than the index finger, and 2D: 4D is about 0.96. In women, as a rule, the opposite is true, and this figure is more than one.

Biological scientists from the University of Florida (USA) have found that the length of a person's fingers is laid in the womb under the influence of sex hormones. Testosterone stimulates the growth of the ring finger and estrogen stimulates the index finger. It is believed that under the influence of testosterone, the brain regions responsible for spatial coordination and mathematical abilities develop, and under the influence of estrogen - for the skills of oral speech. That is, the longer a student has a ring finger, the more chances he has to earn A's in mathematical disciplines, and if the index finger is longer, then we are waiting for success in tests for literacy and correct speech.

And in general, with the help of these numbers, you can get a fairly accurate psychological characterization of a person. For example, successful athletes, in particular rugby players, usually have a low 2D: 4D score. Such people are optimistic, aggressive, mentally stable, and such traits are just what are needed for sports achievements. Finger length is also linked to other human traits, such as empathy and addiction. Dutch and British scientists conducted a study in which 16 female volunteers took part. They were asked to rate the mood of people with different facial expressions depicted in the photographs. It turned out that subjects with a low 2D: 4D ratio, close to male, were less discerning. They gave few correct answers regarding the mood of the people photographed.

And German scientists in April 2011 found that alcohol-dependent survey participants had a lower 2D: 4D index than healthy volunteers.

How to measure 2D: 4D ratio?

By this ratio, one can also judge a person's ability to play the stock market - the longer the ring finger, the more serious its owner has the chances of success, according to a recent study by a group of experts from the University of Cambridge.

Can you believe this?

As noted above, for most women, the ring finger is shorter or the same length as the index finger. But the minority with the male ratio of 2D: 4D is able to achieve higher athletic performance. Such women are distinguished by high intelligence, willpower, musical abilities. But not everything is so rosy. In terms of health, these women are at increased risk of developing heart disease.

Scientists from the University of Nottingham (England) examined the hands of two thousand patients with arthritis and one thousand healthy women around the age of 60. X-rays of the hands were taken and accurate measurements of the length of the fingers were made. It turned out that women with long ring fingers have a higher risk of developing arthritis.

And what about men? By the ratio of the length of the fingers, it turns out, you can roughly predict at what age a person will have the first heart attack (if, of course, it happens at all). This conclusion was reached by scientists from the University of Liverpool after receiving data on the fingers of 151 men of different ages who had heart disease. If a patient has a 2D: 4D ratio of 0.9, it is unlikely that they will have a heart attack before age 75. When the index is 0.93, trouble can happen around 55. And if the size of the index and ring fingers is the same - at 45 years old.

Should we believe such studies? Everyone decides for himself. But in different countries, more than 200 experiments have been carried out. The main conclusions are as follows. Ladies with female fingers (index is longer than the nameless or equal to it) do not like to take risks, are not assertive, they are nervous over trifles. With a male type of fingers, they are more athletic, aggressive, among them, by the way, there are many left-handers.

Representatives of the strong half of humanity with male-type fingers (the ring finger is longer) have pronounced sports and mathematical abilities, they are less likely to suffer from heart diseases, and are aggressive. Among such men, there are more left-handers and autistic patients.

Men with female fingers are sociable, express their thoughts well, they are poor at sports, they are prone to depression, heart disease and even schizophrenia. Most of these people are right-handed.

What information do nails carry?

Fingernails can also show how healthy or unhealthy their owner is. If they are brittle in a person, this indicates a lack of vitamins or, for example, anemia.

White nails are an indicator of diabetes or liver cirrhosis. If a greenish tint is observed, an infection is possible in the nail plate and in the body as a whole. With a blue tint, you should pay attention to the lungs. And if small black streaks are visible on the nails, then heart problems are quite likely. The appearance of white spots and lines indicates a simple lack of iron and zinc in the body, and in some cases it is a signal that the kidneys or liver are not working well.

What a crunch?

Let's pay attention to the joints of the fingers. If they crunch, then the body lacks calcium. Unusually flexible joints or, conversely, poorly bent joints indicate the poor condition of the gallbladder and liver. And when there is pain between the second and third phalanges of the index or ring finger, then knee joints may soon become ill.

Hand temperature

Now let's determine how warm or cold your hands are. If they have “frog's feet temperature”, peripheral circulation disorders are possible. This means that you need to take care to replenish the body's reserves of niacin. To do this, add meat, fish, mushrooms, buckwheat, beans, cabbage to your daily diet.

If the palms, on the contrary, are hot, then the liver is not in order. Wet hands or a feeling of "creeping" on the palm indicate that a person has problems with the endocrine system, possibly a hyperfunction of the thyroid gland. But her hypofunction is indicated by dry and pale skin of the palms.

Frequently numb little fingers report cardiovascular diseases to a person. And the stiffness of the thumbs indicates the weakness of the respiratory system.

All of the above signs indicate only possible malfunctions in your body, so do not immediately get scared and despair. You just need to see a doctor and take care of your health.
