The pyramids of Egypt have kept their secrets for over 4,500 years. Only recently did Egyptian experts and specialists from other countries begin to unravel their secrets using satellites. A team of scientists used cosmic rays to create maps showing the internal structures of these ancient wonders.
Last week, archaeologists revealed to the world the first results of their work involving the Bent pyramid, located 25 miles south of Cairo. Located in the Royal Necropolis of Dahshur, the Bent Pyramid was one of the first built in the old Kingdom of Pharaoh Sneferu. 3D images clearly show the inner chambers, which are about 4,600 years old, as well as the outline of a second secret chamber inside the pyramid.
Tayubi Mehdi, president of the Institute for Innovative Heritage, revealed the secret of the technology used to obtain these three-dimensional images. X-ray particles called muons rain out from the Earth's atmosphere. These particles pass through empty spaces, but can be absorbed or deflected by harder surfaces. By studying clusters of muon particles, scientists can learn more about the construction of the pyramid.
So, the pyramid of Bent has two entrances that lead to two corridors leading to two burial crypts, one above the other. It was previously believed that Pharaoh Sneferu was buried inside a pyramid in a hidden crypt, but recent photographs have ruled out this possibility. So there are still unsolved secrets.
