Since ancient times, the world order and human relationships have been based on basic moral principles. Morality was an indicator of how much a person can be trusted. And although the ancient society cannot be called humanity-oriented, morality played far from the last place in it. The rules were very simple. Do not take the life of the innocent, do not steal or commit other crimes, and be honest with yourself and your comrades. The arrival of accelerated technological development and class stratification of society - completely destroyed all primitive morality. The world has turned upside down.
Some philosophers argued that as soon as one person begins to believe that his life is more valuable than others, he will begin to teach others the same worldview and this will be the beginning of the end. Other wise sayings are also known. It is impossible to build a beautiful, blooming world on the bones and suffering of innocent people. This is contrary to nature itself. Unfortunately, people quickly realized that progress requires sacrifice. Progress does not have to be expressed in technological development. Any qualitative change for the better is already progress.
Primitive states boldly divided the population into full citizens and disenfranchised slaves. Slaves had no rights, and the value of their lives was no higher than the value of the lives of animals. Slaves were exploited in hard labor, slaves were used as involuntary warriors, and even primitive experiments were put on them. Creating something new - a person is faced with the need to test in practice. In ancient times, slaves and prisoners of war were used as test subjects.
Little has changed over time. In medieval Europe, experiments on mentally ill people were also carried out, and then their bodies were burned. Some documents, not recognized by the Catholic Church, at all testify to the study of the limits of the endurance of the human body. Witchcraft suspects were tortured to death, not because of the need to gain recognition, but out of scientific curiosity.
Of course, you cannot talk about progress without touching on the 20th century and our days. Just a century ago, there were neither so many miraculous devices nor a huge selection of drugs in the world. For some 100 years, the world has changed so much that everything that was before became dense antiquity.
Germany took the first steps towards the future on the eve of the First World War. The first ever tanks and toxic agents were developed. New types of drugs were tested on wounded soldiers, and new types of means of destruction were tested on prisoners of war. However, the story is terrifying in that it was all just a prelude. The real horrors began a year before the outbreak of World War II. The Japanese and German explorers knew no mercy. Some improved machines for waging war, others developed modern pharmaceuticals. The terrifying ideology of Nazi Germany untied the hands of mad scientists who, in an attempt to achieve their goals, killed thousands of experimental prisoners every day.
The largest pharmaceutical companies of our time worked closely with death camps half a century ago. Deliveries of prisoners for experiments were carried out regularly. One of the largest medical companies killed more than a thousand experimental prisoners in just one day. On the basis of the death camps, enterprises for the study of the human body were also opened. Somewhere, the Nazis simply tested weapons, and somewhere they tried to turn prisoners of Jewish nationality into Aryans.
Experiments with overloads and extreme temperatures were no less popular. The leadership of Nazi Germany did not want to sacrifice valuable military pilots and on the ground created unbearable conditions for "experimental" people. This was how fatal overloads for a person, lethal decrease or increase in temperature, radiation exposure and much more were determined. The most terrible thing is that the data that were obtained as a result of inhuman experiments received worldwide recognition. Under the guise of condemnation, there was approval. Almost all modern medicine applies all this knowledge. How is it that the desire to build a better future and learn about human nature has resulted in the suffering of others?

It is possible to test only those drugs that have already been tested many times. It's different in the USA. Clinical trials are officially legal, and companies are luring volunteers with high monetary rewards for participating in the experiments. In addition, there has long been a massive propaganda of the usefulness of participating in such tests. People are convinced that in some cases, as a result of testing, they will be endowed with super powers. There are few such people, but they exist. Clinical trials can be carried out in large quantities,and people will not suspect anything. This is especially true in backward countries, whose inhabitants are testing new drugs under the guise of humanitarian aid.
How to avoid becoming victims of progress? It's impossible. The modern world is one large testing ground for the introduction of new technologies. Companies release technologies to the market after testing, but no one can say for sure what the effect will be after several decades of applying a particular technology. It may well turn out that, out of ignorance, we are approaching a catastrophe or even the end of our own civilization with our own hands.
