In the first half of the nineteenth century, about three hundred ancient labyrinths were discovered on the shores of the White Sea. These are flat spiral shapes with a diameter of five to thirty meters. The spiral lines are made of small stones up to fifty centimeters high. The buildings are over four thousand years old. Various labyrinths are found all over the planet, but there are no analogues of the stone labyrinths of the White Sea in other cultures.
Who and why laid out mysterious figures from stones in the vast northern territory is not known. All labyrinths are located on the shore. The northern tribes who lived here in the second millennium BC were engaged in fishing. Labyrinths could be a pattern for placing traps for fish arriving with a tidal wave. But it is hard to believe that the fishing industry required such complex devices. According to another version, labyrinths are places of worship for pagan rituals. But it is strange that only on the coast of the White Sea these figures are made in the form of spirals. In other pagan religions nothing like this is found. Since ancient times, northern peoples have been famous for their sorcerers and shamans. It was believed that they knew how to enchant people, prophesy, cause storms and thunderstorms. According to local legends,the extraordinary abilities of shamans were associated with the magic of the spirals of the labyrinths. It was believed that these structures indicated an entrance to another world. But which one? Another temporary space? Another dimension?
The shape of the spirals of the stone labyrinths from the coast of the White Sea is remarkably similar to our galaxy. Perhaps the ancient people who built these mysterious structures had knowledge of the structure of the universe? The purpose of the stone spirals is still a mystery. Perhaps, in the labyrinths, in their shape and location, coded ancient knowledge is still stored. But the key to them was lost in the mists of time.
