In the Vitebsk region in the north of Belarus, there is a forest in which, as in any other forest, stones lie. However, one of these stones is not like the others. Locals have known about the amazing properties of this piece of rock since at least the beginning of the last century. It is called differently here: the talker-stone, the screamer-stone, the howler-stone, the whistle-stone, and so on.

It is known for certain that over the past few decades, the stone has spontaneously moved more than a hundred meters. As you know, similar walking stones are found in other parts of the world. For example, in the American National Park Death Valley, there are many boulders that continuously crawl along the clay bottom of a dried lake, periodically changing direction and leaving behind them zigzag tracks. Scientists are still unable to explain the nature of this phenomenon.

Amazing properties of stone in the forest

But the Belarusian creeping stone, as one might have guessed by its above-mentioned nicknames, is most famous for its other peculiarity. He is able to talk. Even in the days of the USSR, children came running here to listen to the sounds of the uterus coming from inside the boulder. Sometimes the stone roared, sometimes it hummed, sometimes it seemed to babble something inarticulate. Previously, the village of Dashki was nearby, from where children came to the block to play, but now the village is abandoned, so the howler stone has lost all its former admirers. Nevertheless, paranormal researchers from time to time visit the anomaly to check its movement and hear the mysterious sounds it produces with their own ears.

Even more interesting is that the Talking Stone has a habit of responding to whistles. If you stand at a distance from it and whistle well, then from the side of the mossy block you will hear a characteristic high sound in response: quiet and prolonged, completely unlike your whistle. You can shout, howl and clap your hands as much as you like, trying to find an echo here, but it is not in this place, and never was. The anomalous stone only responds to the whistle, ignoring other sounds.

The screaming stone is hard to find

Getting to the talking boulder is very difficult today. There is no normal road to these abandoned places for a long time, so specialists leave their cars in the nearest residential tree Vasevichi and drive several kilometers on foot, through thickets and swamps. When civilization retreated from here, beavers appeared in the forest, damming up a significant land area. The mysterious stone now stands in such a dam, and it is not only difficult to approach it, but also really dangerous. One gets the impression that the living block has specially chosen such a place for its habitat. Every year it gradually sinks into a quagmire and someday disappears from human eyes altogether.

The boulder is 1.4 meters long, 1.1 meters wide, and 0.9 meters high. It is noteworthy that the sound recording equipment is not able to record sound waves emanating from the stone. Neither his uterine roar nor the distant whistle. Experts repeatedly brought high-sensitivity microphones to the rock, but to no avail. You might think that the anomaly only affects the human brain.

Causes of abnormal stone behavior

What is the mystery of this amazing block, hidden in a swampy forest?

Some believe that this is an alien stone that once fell into this area from space. Others speculate that the unusual boulder has a unique energy that makes it vibrate. Still others are generally inclined to believe that a ghost or a forest spirit lives in a block. In short, there are many hypotheses, but it is impossible to say anything with absolute precision.

Skeptics, of course, put forward their theories. For example, they explain the whistle of a stone by the fact that a certain bird may live nearby, responding to the whistle of a person. Allegedly, she hears a whistle from a distance and also gives a voice in response, however, she is afraid to betray herself near. Bird watchers report that this is possible in principle, but not with such striking consistency. The same bird cannot always be here, even being invisible to people.

There are also doubters who claim that the stone can make sounds while breathing due to the fluctuations in day and night temperatures. They say that there are numerous cracks in the rock, covered with the smallest leaves of mica, and when warm air comes out of the stone, it blows over the mica, making the stone sound. But why are these sounds not recorded then by expensive professional equipment? And why are these sounds echoing to human calls?

Maybe some of the scientists would come up with the idea to take away the howler stone and study it in laboratory conditions? Or is it still worth letting the boulder disappear in the bog, as nature probably intended? It is not forever for him to entertain a person with his amazing properties …
