The northern regions of Siberia and Canada will become a refuge for many species of animals and plants. Researchers in Canada and the United States have published their findings in the overseas publication Science. Global warming will create favorable conditions for increasing biodiversity in the northern regions.
Scientists believe that taiga territories located above 49 degrees will acquire a humid climate by 2070. Before coming to their forecasts, the experts analyzed the territory where 26 thousand trees and shrubs grow. They are quite susceptible to any climate change, which is clearly visible on the rings.
They paid particular attention to the black spruce, which is widespread in the northern regions. The tree is used by birds to lay eggs. The researchers are convinced that if the temperature rises, many animals or plants can adapt to the changes.
Taiga accounts for about 30% of the total forest area of the planet. Too hot climate will appear in the southern regions, which will lead to the death of a significant part of the ecosystem. The loss of vast arable land could have a negative impact on humanity as there is less food available.
