We rarely pay attention to sleep quality. The habit of not getting enough sleep is formed from early childhood: school, army, university, work - it all seems that then we will sleep off. Superimposed on this lack of sleep are other strange features, for which the abundance of information scattered across the Web is already responsible. Is it dangerous to rest like this? And how.

The essence of the problem

Until recently, it was believed that sleeping in a cool room has a healing effect on the body. Indeed, with a lack of heat, the body is forced to burn fat reserves, maintaining the temperature necessary for life. And waking up in the coolness turns out to be much more cheerful - try again to close your eyes when you want to run faster to a hot shower. However, recent research in this area has shown unexpected results: the habit of sleeping in the cold can cost you several years of your life.

Pressure surges

The study's author, Kiego Saeki (MD, an epidemiologist at Nara University), considers spikes in blood pressure to be deadly. The point is that blood pressure naturally rises when you wake up. But a cold room causes your blood vessels to constrict, and your heart begins to beat at an increased pace, trying to warm your entire body.

Dangerous time

This rise in blood pressure lasts for at least two hours. Such a prolonged load on the heart puts all body systems at risk: blood vessels, lungs, liver and the heart itself suffer.

Apathy and nerves

In addition, Kiego Saeki conducted a sociological study of people who prefer to sleep in the cold. As it turned out, most of them do not get about thirty minutes of sleep before the eight hours of proper rest prescribed by medicine. The consequence of this is the growing risk of developing clinical depression, apathetic state and alternating outbursts of aggression.

Solution

However, the constantly high temperature in the room cannot be a solution to the problem. The body needs a sweet spot: buy an inexpensive thermostat and adjust it so that the scale constantly points to 23 degrees Celsius. Japanese scientists consider this temperature to be objectively ideal for good and healthy sleep.
