The picturesque fishing town of Greenock, just 25 miles west of Glasgow, boasts a rich maritime history, ranked among the top 50 hiking trails in Scotland, and boasts beautifully restored Victorian buildings.

In fact, it has long been considered one of the most beautiful cities in the country. But when the sun sets and night descends, on its shores the inhabitants of Greenock know that something is crawling in the dark, watching them in silence, and they hurry home.

Over the years, the stories of Catman (Cat Man), a creature with burning eyes in the dark, were perceived by residents as fairy tales, with witnesses who swore that they saw a black figure crawling out of a drain pipe, with a dying rat in its mouth.

For some, Catman was a cryptozoological beast. For others, the legend of him was the work of local pranksters who scared drunks by throwing a stone into the void from a pub at night. Even the police officers, who often drew up Catman's sighting reports, were convinced that it was a figment of the imagination.

But in the early 2000s, a shocking video captured on a mobile phone changed everything. Catman turned out to be a real creature, moreover, it was a person.

Can you imagine how much the video has become a hot topic for local youth? Before uploading it to the Internet, the city's social work department sent an employee to look for the cat-man, with the goal of helping him with something, but the department employee never found him.

Nobody knows how long Catman has been hiding in Greenock's tunnels. According to some of the earliest reports, this is from the mid 70s.

Some said that he was a Russian sailor who escaped from the ship and stayed in Scotland. Others claimed that he was the victim of a criminal gang. Some have argued that Catman was a crazy fugitive from a local mental hospital. But Catman was reluctant to communicate with people and preferred to be wild. The main food was rats.

To this day, no one knows Catman's true story, where he came from, or how he got his start in the Greenock Tunnels. But the fact that he has existed for half a century is already a shock, probably he would not have lived that long if the locals did not feed him.

The most interesting thing is that Catman is still alive, his skin is completely blackened, his eyes still glow in the dark. His last photos were taken in April 2015.

However, not so long ago in one of the blogs there was a message that Catman was still caught and he was sent to the Ravenscraig hospital.
