Bohol Island, Philippines, is home to the Chocolate Hills, a popular local attraction. The surface of the hills is covered with green grass, which fades towards the end of the dry season and turns brown, hence the nickname - Chocolate Hills.
Concentrated for the most part in the center of the island of Bohol, cone-shaped embankments of limestone, 30 to 120 meters in height, are a natural landscape. There are several versions of the formation of hills. According to one version, the hills were formed by the rise of coral deposits, the influence of rainwater and erosion. There is also a version that this is an old coral reef that was formed in the process of many thousand years of erosion and wind.
The Philippine authorities have organized resorts on the island, the most recognizable "Chocolate Hills Resort" located in the town of Carmen. The hills can also be viewed from the Samboyan Peak - a mountain resort and health center. The Chocolate Hills are one of the main tourist attractions on Bohol Island.
