Scientists have found out why the water did not disappear from the satellite at the time of its appearance

American researchers John Wade and Bernard Wood of the University of Oxford performed calculations that allowed them to find key evidence of the theory of the shock origin of the moon. According to the researchers, the fact that there is water on the Earth's satellite does not contradict the version according to which it arose after the collision of the Earth with another object.

According to the most common version today, the Moon appeared after a huge space object crashed into the Earth, the mass of which could be one fifth of the mass of our planet. However, until now, it was assumed that with such a collision, the lunar soil should not contain water - it should have evaporated from the satellite immediately after its formation. However, computer simulations carried out by scientists have shown that the presence of water on the Moon does not "negate" the shock version of its origin.

Experts came to the conclusion that soon in the first time after the "birth" of the Moon, water or hydrogen could still be in it, being dissolved in magma. Subsequently, the water "hardened" along with the rocks, in which it can now be found. According to experts, this allows us to assert that the "shock" version of the origin of the Moon is correct, with more confidence than ever before.

The scientific work, written as a result of their research, was presented by specialists in the pages of the journal Earth and Planetary Science Letters.

By the way, recently another group of scientists from the Royal Observatory of Belgium came up with the assumption that the satellites of Mars, Phobos and Deimos, were also formed as a result of the collision of the red planet with another large celestial body. At the same time, the model compiled by specialists implied that along with the two known satellites in the past, Mars had a third moon, but it was heavier and some time later "crashed" on the planet. It is also argued that in the future, Phobos will be the same, after which Deimos will remain the only natural satellite of Mars.
