A neurophysiological explanation of the phenomenon of the energy aura, which is seen by those who practice alternative medicine, is proposed.
Some people claim to be able to see a person's aura - a multi-colored silhouette that surrounds the body, beyond the control of the "ordinary eye." Some of the most common "Aurovids" are healers and healers who influence the biofield and the energy background. Their healing abilities can be treated in different ways, but, according to psychologists from the University of Granada (Spain), they do see an aura, and this aura has a completely scientific neuropsychological explanation.
As the researchers write in the journal Consciousness and Cognition, the energy coloring invisible to ordinary people can manifest itself through synesthesia. This neurophysiological phenomenon is characterized by excessive formation of interneuronal connections. At the same time, such areas of the brain begin to exchange signals that usually do not. So it turns out that a person begins to see, for example, sound in color. Synesthesia is common in people in the arts, and apparently in those who practice alternative medicine.
The authors analyzed the "aurovic" abilities of several alternative medicine practitioners and concluded that most of them have at least one type of synesthesia, when a brain region responsible for facial recognition is connected to a color-discriminating area. In addition, a person may have mirror synesthesia, when in response to touch or pain felt by others, you feel the same in yourself. The ability for empathy, as well as schizotypal accents in the psyche, when a person is not sick, but can occasionally hallucinate and is prone to slight paranoia, helps to see the aura well.
In a word, energy healers do not lie at all when they say that they see your aura and feel your pain. Another thing is how much what they see has to do with objective reality. It is worth noting that the authors of the article, like real scientists, shared different ideas about the aura: according to them, they did not touch at all the phenomenon of the aura, which is spoken of in sacred and esoteric texts describing the structure of divine spheres. Such an aura is different from that seen by sorcerers, and it is hardly possible to explain it by synesthesia.
