When all seems to be lost, the smallest sign of hope can bring an entire society together. This is exactly what happened in the cities of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, which were affected by wildfires that claimed about ten lives and destroyed hundreds of homes and businesses earlier this week (see video below).
Residents were allowed to return to see their damaged or destroyed homes this Friday, but prior to that, fire brigades once again surveyed the disaster area and found that several spiritual items had survived a hell in which everything else burned down.
Amid the incredible devastation, Tennessee residents have discovered several religious statues that survived the disaster.
A charred statue of Jesus remained on the site of the burned down house. A Tennessee spokesman said the same phenomenon was observed in other houses that have turned into ruins. There were found statues of an angel and a grieving virgin.
It can be said that the statues remained intact due to the fact that they were made of stone, but a volunteer clearing the local park discovered another amazing find.
Isaac McCord found a page from the Bible burned around the edges. It is incredible, but it contains a passage from the book of the prophet Joel, in which he appeals to the Lord for help from a destructive fire: “To Thee, Lord, I call; for the fire consumed the evil pastures of the desert, and the flames consumed all the trees in the field."
For people affected by devastating fires, these strange phenomena can surely serve as a consolation and inspire to rebuild their homes.
