Indian monk Swami Sivananda said that he was able to live to be 120 because he gave up sex and did not eat food with spices. The South China Morning Post reports.

“I eat very simply - boiled food without oil or spices. I don’t drink milk or eat fruit because it’s delicious food. (…) I owe my age to yoga, discipline and celibacy,”said the man.

Swami Sivananda was born on August 8, 1896. After losing his parents at the age of five, his relatives gave him to be raised by a guru, with whom he traveled to India. As an adult, Sivananda decided to devote his life to monasticism. According to the man, he lives very modestly: for example, he sleeps on the floor, placing a wooden block under his head.

“Now people are no longer happy, healthy and honest. It hurts me very much,”Sivananda shared.

The monk's disciples advised him to apply to the Guinness Book of Records and record that he is the oldest inhabitant of the planet. The publication draws attention to the fact that the man looks 50 years younger than his age.

In 2013, at the 117th year of life, the Japanese Jiroemon Kimura, considered the oldest man who ever lived, died.
