The ring of the new collider will be 100 kilometers long - almost like the Moscow Ring Road.

Work for the rest of the 21st century

The European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) has approved plans for the construction of the Future Circular Collider - the FCC or, in our opinion, the BPC. Physicists intend to work with him after the current world's largest instrument for learning the secrets of matter - the Large Hadron Collider - LHC, has exhausted its capabilities. Or the LHC, in our opinion. Or the shaitan-machine, as even scientists themselves sometimes call him, in awe of the scale of what was done.

The BKK will be located in a 100-kilometer underground ring tunnel. It will be laid next to the 27-kilometer LHC loop.

As follows from the article published in the journal Nature, the plans of physicists extend to the entire 21st century. Starting somewhere in 2040, they are going to accelerate and collide electrons with positrons in the BKK - their positively charged antipodes from antimatter.

Further, the energy of the collider will be brought to a fantastic value of 100 teraelectronvolts and more massive particles - protons and heavy ions - will collide. To smash them to smithereens and see what happens.

In the process of high-energy experiments, physicists intend to refine the parameters of already known elementary particles and discover new ones. But the main thing: they expect to "produce" in large quantities the Higgs bosons, several of which with great difficulty managed to shake out by means of the "weak" LHC. Their mass production will allow us to study the properties of this - the so-called particle of God, which gives mass to all other particles in the world around us. Which, in turn, will open up prospects for understanding the secrets of gravity and antigravity. Only for this, no money is a pity. And you need only 21 billion euros. So much will have to be spent on the construction and equipping of the BKK, the circumference of which will be only 8.9 kilometers less than the Moscow ring road.

However, in addition to the Higgs bosons, scientists also hope to synthesize dark matter and thereby understand what it actually consists of. And of course, they would like to find out why in the universe, ordinary matter prevails over antimatter.

No matter how bad things happen

The collision energy of particles in the LHC did not exceed 14 teraelectronvolts (TeV). In the BKK it will reach 100 TeV. And this frightens not only the illiterate ordinary people, but highly educated scientists. For example, Martin John Rees is a renowned British astrophysicist and cosmologist, lifelong peer and astronomer royal. Until 2010, he headed the Royal Society of London. That is, he was the leader of all British scientists.

Two years ago, Sir Martin Rees published a book entitled "On The Future: Prospects for Humanity", in which he outlined the dangers of large-scale physical experiments - just the kind of cyclopean, for which the LCC will be built.

According to the Royal Astronomer and some of his equally respected colleagues, collisions of particles with transcendental energy threaten the very existence of the Earth. For example, they can give rise to microscopic black holes, which grow and "suck" the entire planet.

The Higgs boson is capable of creating a field that will plunge the entire universe into an unstable state. And it will eventually disintegrate.

Experiments with high energies seem to be able to provoke a chain reaction, as a result of which our ordinary matter will turn into the so-called strange - incredibly dense and heavy. In this case, the earth will be compressed into a sphere with a diameter of about 100 meters.

The Astronomer Royal fears that a black hole will form in place of the BKK, which will begin to suck everything around. Similar fears accompanied the experiments at the LHC. Fortunately, they did not come true

So far, nothing terrible has happened. But the experiments weren't that powerful either. How will the coming ones end? There is no clarity yet. Scientists argue. There are those who propose not to build a new shaitan-machine - out of sin, as they say. It is believed that it would be better to spend the money, say, on flights to Mars. Or for the construction of some powerful telescope on the moon. But it looks like they will build the BPC. Unless unforeseen circumstances, such as a new pandemic, interfere. CERN's credibility and influence is strong not only in Europe but throughout the world. In the creation of the LHC, for example, representatives of 100 countries, more than 10 thousand scientists and specialists, including from Russia, took part.
