An old friend of mine, grandmother Masha, told me this story. A sweet and kind woman, she lives in the village alone. The children grew up and went to live in the capital, and her husband died about a year ago.

They lived a long and happy life together. Grandfather died at the end of summer, the children called grandmother to their city. But she did not want to leave the house.

Autumn passed sadly, winter dragged on even longer. And then spring came, nature woke up after a long sleep. And Maria still misses her husband. At this time, the garden would be tidied up together, dug, planted …

The children arrived with their grandchildren, they did everything in the garden. They promised to bring grandchildren for the summer holidays. And again they left, of course, work, study.

Masha went out into the garden to dig. Everything seems to have been done, but there is always work. And everything falls out of hand, now the grandfather would drag on a song, his favorite …

Tears in Masha's eyes welled up, sat down in the furrow and began to cry. And suddenly a bird, a wagtail, runs up and down the ridge past grandmother. A funny bird, kind of dancing. Not afraid. Masha became quiet, the bird fluttered and sat on her shoulder. And my soul suddenly became calm, the melancholy passed, the mood rose.

All summer this bird in Masha's garden was spinning around, did not go to her grandchildren, and Masha sat on her shoulder more than once.

My grandmother shared this story with me at the end of last summer. And she herself already glows. She thought that it was the soul of her deceased husband in the form of a bird that had relieved her of longing. Maybe, maybe this, I don't know.

Only the old woman came to life in front of her eyes, with a good mood. She says, don't consider me crazy, but I talk to the bird, I tell her all sorts of news. And she listens, turns her head, nods sometimes. And in my heart it is easy, as if I talked to the deceased husband.

With the advent of cold weather, that bird disappeared.

Now grandmother Masha is looking forward to the arrival of migratory birds in our area.
