Most people are unaware that there are many ancient manuscripts in the world that describe the incredible achievements of the past. And if a journalist starts talking about an ancient manuscript with drawings of a spaceship, skeptics will immediately answer that this is fake, fairy tales, and the journalist is a dreamer and a madman.

Nowadays, people are used to calling fake all information that they find it hard to believe and that goes against their system of values, knowledge or experience. Nevertheless, such a document exists - and it is not a fake!

The manuscript of Sibiu (named after the city), found in 1961 by the professor of the University of Bucharest Dou Toderiu, consists of 450 pages and contains detailed descriptions and drawings of multistage rockets, different types of liquid fuel, as well as … a spacecraft similar in its characteristics to the modern one.

The book was written in German, officially published in 1556 and is the result of 25 years of scientific work of a medieval military engineer. The inventor, the Transylvanian Saxon (ethnic German) Konrad Haas (1509–1576), was a specialist in firearms.

Presumably, the engineer was born in Austria or Transylvania, and in the Romanian city of Hermanstadt (Sibiu) he arrived with the army of King Ferdinand I and was responsible for the military arsenal. The manuscript provides information on ballistics and artillery, shows the main functions of missiles of two types - multistage and parallel-coupled. Descriptions of the nozzle and stabilizers were well ahead of their time.

It remains a mystery whether Haas succeeded in putting his theoretical calculations into practice. Some scientists argue that yes: the launch of a rocket into low-earth orbit took place in Sibiu back in 1550. If this is really so, then the first people could have been in space 500 years earlier …

However, the official science, as usual, is uncompromising in such matters, and, according to the academicians, there is no compelling documented evidence of this. The office "luminaries" took away from Haas even the palm he deserved: in history textbooks the German Johann Schmidlap is named the creator of the rockets.

Meanwhile, Haas was not only a man of genius, but also a great humanist of his time. All his life he dreamed that people would stop fighting. His book contains these words:

“My advice is that there should be more peace and fewer wars on earth, so that people leave their rifles in storage, and not a single bullet fires from a gun, so that the gunpowder does not burn when it is damp; so that the prince will keep his money, and the armorer - his life."
