The Ukok plateau is rightfully considered Altai Tibet, because this place has a hypnotic beauty and is literally saturated with mysticism. The name Ukok can be translated as "listen to the heavens." This ancient land has guarded its secrets for a very long time. Researchers and archaeologists often discern in the noise of an unexpectedly blowing wind the neighing of the horses of Genghis Khan's huge army.
Shamans claim that three worlds are connected here, the souls of the mountains will not allow an outsider to penetrate here and will never open the passage between these worlds to the uninitiated.
The Ukok plateau is a kind of patch on which the borders of four states converge: the Russian Federation, the Republic of China, Kazakhstan and Mongolia. Ukok is translated from various dialects as follows: Voice of Heaven, Listen to Heaven, stretcher, large chest. By the common decision of the countries and in order to preserve the countless burial mounds in safety, it was decided to declare this plateau a zone without a person. Thus prohibiting any movement without special permission.
The history of human existence in this place begins with the Paleolithic period. This is evidenced by 990 unique historical finds. The brightest of them are attributed to the Scythian period, dating back to the 8th-3rd centuries BC.
On this territory, about two hundred and twenty petroglyphs were discovered, the age of which reaches 14 thousand years. The oldest is the petroglyph, which depicts a horned goat - a machora, which has become extinct for more than 30 thousand. years ago.

Literally at the turn of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries on the Ukok plateau, in a rather inaccessible place, while studying the burial mound, a mummified girl was found, later called the "Altai Princess".
The girl was quite young and had a Caucasian appearance. She is dressed in exquisite silk garments and hung with gold pieces with embedded precious stones. There is a tattoo depicting a griffin on the hands.
A thickened red belt encircling the girl's waist informed that the maiden belonged to the caste of women - fighters - the Eyes of Bal.
Inside the sarcophagus, upholstered in gold, a scepter and ritual weapons were also found; in the tomb were found the bones of six horses in full gear and a wooden deck made of deciduous wood. This decoration shows that the buried girl is from the nobility.
The estimated age of the mound is 5 thousand years, and the excellent preservation of the mummy is explained by the eternal ice. Locals named this girl Princess Kadyn, the foremother of all mankind.
This mummy is now on display at the Museum of the Institute of the Siberian RAS.
