In red and white
It is believed that the last Russian tsar was shot on direct orders from the Kremlin. Once again, Trotsky's diaries speak in favor of the version of Lenin's involvement in the execution. Nevertheless, historians do not have a single intelligible document in their hands that directly testifies to the atrocities of Lenin and his inner circle. It is possible that the Ural Bolsheviks shot Nikolai and his neighbors in a hurry, clearly not coordinating all their actions with Moscow, since the whites were about to enter the city.
Lenin himself was deeply indifferent to Nicholas II, his fate was a "passed stage", and the proletarian leader was never distinguished by his fetishist vindictiveness. So this point is still controversial.
For a long time in the conservative and monarchical environment, there was a legend that the murder was ritual, and the severed head of the tsar allegedly flaunted on Lenin's desk until his death in 1924.
These are all legends. However, it is known for certain that in the basement of the Ipatiev house on the wall of Yurovsky, who commanded the execution, an inscription in German was carved: "Belshazzar was killed that night by his servants." This inscription was later regarded by the Whites, who later occupied Yekaterinburg, as the main proof of the ritual nature of the murder.

Nicholas II could have been saved?
In the near-historical environment, there are still rumors that Nicholas II and his family could then have escaped from captivity to the whites, who would then have transported them to England. In support of this version, the famous message of a certain "Russian officer" is often cited, which the royal family secretly received in captivity and in which it was said that everything was ready for escape and only the very consent of the emperor was needed. More recently, it turned out that all this was inspired by the Bolsheviks, and this letter was written by the Chekists, who thus checked how ready the tsar was to escape.
The attempts of the Bolsheviks to carefully conceal the fact of the murder of the entire royal family (and not just Nicholas II alone) gave rise to a lot of conflicting rumors about the possible miraculous salvation of all or several members of the august family. It is worth noting that among the many adventurers, perhaps the most famous of the false Anastasias was Anna Anderson, and the number of Alekseev impostors simply cannot be counted. Nevertheless, the discovery in 2007 of two more bodies that were missing during the 1991 excavations by 99% confirms the official version that the bodies of Anastasia and Alexei were simply buried separately from all the others in order to further confuse future seekers.
