In any case, the sinking of the Titanic in April 1912 is one of the saddest pages in history. But it is quite possible that the tragedy was not accidental, but planned for the sake of profit.

The fact is that the Titanic had an older twin ship, the Olympic. Both liners were the same size, about the same year of manufacture. The only difference was that the Titanic was slightly more comfortable. But who will notice such an insignificant difference, especially at the bottom of the deep ocean?

The idea of the scam of the owners of the ships was "prompted" by the extreme unluckiness of the "Olympic". The liner, which was supposed to bring fabulous profits, was a hassle and inconvenience. The operation of the Olympic was accompanied by high costs. The ship's unluckiness manifested itself already upon launching. In 1910, with fanfare and champagne, the deflated Olympic crashes into the dam.

The liner immediately returns to the shipyard for repairs. And the owners are also forced to pay for the repair of the dam. Further, any sailing "Olympic" was accompanied by accidents and misfortunes. The owners quickly got tired of this state of affairs, and they came up with a "brilliant" idea of how to make money on all this. They insure another ship, the Titanic, for a fabulous sum of money.

For the early 20th century, a million pounds insurance premium is astronomical. However, in terms of the modern exchange rate, the amount is also rather big: about fifty-two million pounds sterling.

So the Titanic is insured. And then the owners give the command to renovate the Olympic and repaint it in the colors of the younger brother. "Olympic" goes sailing under a false name, safely sinks in the waters of the Atlantic, passengers are rescued by a ship that "unexpectedly" sailed nearby, and the owners of the liner make a profit.

But the authors of the idea miscalculated and did not take into account the ship's bad luck. To repaint it was repainted, and the bad luck was gone. The liner did not even reach the place of the alleged meeting with the rescue ship. The ship met an iceberg and crashed into it at full speed. Most of the passengers died. And the shipowners still got their own insurance. And the real "Titanic" served quietly for another 25 years under the name "Olympic". Or did you not serve?
